i like this material... but i dont know what it is??? and how do they put those designs under that material?? is it plastic???

its tweed.....i know a guy off a diff msg board that did his whole dash and everything himself in tweed, with designs in it and stuff, it looked sick, and he did it all himself. insanity i tell you.

ya, but whats in that pic is synthetic, you can tell by the way it lays, try to go at least 40% cotton (not sure about thread count, ie, weight) . Stay away from rayon (doesn't put up with UV well), nylon is fine. The little designs can be done with balsa, epoxy, rubber (easiest, IMO, in that case), even styrofoam (500 dense)

IMO, I would still go with leather. If you live South, Custom Soft Trim is the way to go. Avoid Catzskins, they feature rather poor stitching for the cost.

so the images in the background are just glued on from the back ??? or are they placed in back of the material before its straped on???

it depends, but on the passenger side of that dash, it was prolly laid on the dash before the fabric was overlayed.

man that must be a lot of heating to get it tight like that.... oh wait a sec.. its tweed... you dont need to heat those things....

when i went to school to get my MECP we did advanced designs
and if you want to do raised 3d logo

for carpet not recommended
tweed - closed cell foam
vinyl - vinyl (cut the design out of vinyl 1-2 layers)

everything is glued first to the panel then you put the cover over it. pretty easy, use a spoon or something. do not use your fingers on some materials like headliner, because it leaves marks.

in my s10xtreme i had a Xtreme logo in my headliner with closed cell foam, then i changed it to the X logo... my friend put
Honda Civic and the H symbol in his... he free handed the designs...

oh yea, if your doing tweed, you also put like 1/4 soft foam on before it to make it look and feel good. I wouldn't suggest tweed for seats, tweed is itchy!

so when you use vynil... do you still have to heat it up in order for it to contour properly around the image???

I helped a friend put flames on his door panels.. Its a lot easier then I thought it could be.

We used some really thin foam and traced out the design to make sure it fit. Then you use a can of spray glue to glue the cloth to it but you have to hold it tight so you dont get wrinkles. And becareful not to spray to much and leave spots on the fabric.
