What octane should i use ??

I have a 94 honda accord ex with 90,000 miles and an intake and muffler... WHat octane should i use ?? Pros/Cons of all

Use the lowest octane you can w/o causing detonation. Basically, with just I/E and stock timing, that would be 87 or "regular" unless you're having problems.

higher octane means that the fuel can withstand high compression ratio without dentonating itself before the spark, which will cause the engine to knock. i don't know about the cr on a civic but i guess it is under 9:1 since it uses 87 octane. to use a higher octane with the same performance you need to advance the timing. using higher octane on an engine will cause misfire, rattling and sometimes knock. also your gas mileage will become gas yardage. as far as your concorde goes stick with whatever says in the owner's manual.

well... i use 91 on my 90 accord f22. i have absolutely no problems at all. and it runs soooo much smoother.

You're most likely throwing money out the window, and possibly performance. I used 89-91 for a long time when I first got my car and didn't know any better.

Now I run 87 and use Techron injector cleaner every 3000-4000 miles and everything's good. In fact, I recently used plus gas (89 i think) for a couple of tanks to see if I noticed a difference, and I honestly didn't.

and hell... i get 25mpg... i refuel my 15 gallon tank every 3 weeks so its not like im constantly refilling and wasting money.

Just out of curiosity, did your engine knock when using 87? I do get a slight hesitation at around 2000-2200 RPMS, but I don't think its because I'm using 87...

big bucks... heh. it costs me about one dollar more to get premium. its about 99cents a gallon in oklahoma. regular is hovering around 90.

Lucky man... a few months ago, regular was around $1.70, and now its down to around $1.30, and about $1.50 for premium.

In Chicago the prices are like in ok- But sometimes the arabs that own the stations go nuts and raise it like 50 cents or more on weekends. Ouch!!

IM SOOO CONFUSED !?! Ive been wasting my money on 91 this whole time thinking its the better gas... Why is 91 more expensive than 87 and why is it better ?? In what cases is 87 better ?? Advancing timing ?? HELP!!!!!!

You need to use a higher octane if you advance your timing. Octane is a resistance to detonation, and I do believe that you have been wasting your money buying premium.

LOL THAT IS FUNNY!!! in north carolina premium is 93 octane i hear you guys say 1.50 for 91 octane lol we pay 1.33 for 93 octane!!!!

as far the knocking goes you will either hear it, or the check engine light will come on.

for timing you i guess you need a adjustable timing gears, bnut i'm not sure. i think the stock gear can be modified but npot to that extent as the aftermarket ones.

and why the 87 is scheaper and better ? well 87 is made for most of the cars, and it does not require so much distilation (and purification) as the 89,91, 93 and 94, so there the technological process is cheaper. Many of the higher price cars (like caddys) like to go only on premium and plus. If u will ever go into an older one with analog display it will say premium fuel only.
