Recharging Air Conditioner

My AC just went out. The mechanic says that I probably have to recharge my system. He gave me a quote of $250. Does this sound reasonable? How much is the going rate. I live in the SF/Bay Area.

it really depends, but recharging it won't solve too much since the old one leaked out. i would look for seals and stuff and convert it to the r134a from r12. the r134a costs about $20 to fill thewhole system on an accord, and i assume the lude is about the same

what year lude are we talking about. either way i think you got more problems then just a recharge. but 250 is a reasonable price.

just better off buying a whole new radiator. get one cheap from a junk yard. but i guess its more of a hassle. 250 isnt bad getting it recharged. but as old as it is there could be more wrong then you think.

A local mechanic just emailed me and said he could replace the freon and find the leak for $100. I don't plan on keeping this car for much longer. I just need something to get me through the summer. Will just replacing the freon do anything? Thanks

it should, however i'd ask him if it will fix it and tell him if it dosnt fix the problem your not going to pay for it.
