all thats needed for lowerin my civic

i dont know how to lower a car, i dont know whats needed, all i know is i want to be able to adjust what i get so it can be perfected (it was suggested to me to get coil overs)...i have a budget to run by, but a picky mind to please...im just looking for some advice...

i got some nice 16" rims and the tires meat the stock diameter of the original wheels (low prof)...all im looking to do is fill in the gap...

what would yall suggest i should get to lower my car, and what all is needed to lower my car (i.e. camber kit, coil overs,...ect) and what i should be expecting to pay...like i said, ive got no experience/knowledge of what do do/how much to pay, and you know all those little car club shops might just be trying to rip my wallet from my hand....any/all advice needed and welcome

Before I suggest anything, will you be racing your car at all? Do you care about having a harsh ride? Will you be changing the height on your setup?

naw, no racing, just a stock engine...anyways...i feel theres just oo many "fast" civic out there, if i wanted fast, i'd just save up for that ferrari bumpy isnt bad, but isnt good either....

(i need a new cd deck, mine is so old it still does that skipping thing (you remember what them early '90s cd players used to do) every time i hit a 1/2 inch bump in the road)

im really just driving for the chicks that dont know the diff between getting to 100mph in 10 secs or 50 secs(lol)

So it doesn't sound like you need the height adjustability then. Get a nice set of springs, such as Eibach sportlines or the pro-kit. You'll need some decent struts to go with that, maybe KYB AGX. If you go with sportlines, which drop around 2", you'll need a camber kit probably. I'd go ahead and drop it, get an alignment, and then see if you need the kit though. With the pro-kit, you won't need a camber kit.

you think 2" would me good for a nice dropped look for a civic?...i know i could save a bunch of money sticking with springs...i just didnt wanna get a 2" drop and think to myself that thats too much...im going to get a professional's opinion on the right amount of drop i should get...im just paranoid i guess about not getting the right drop to get me that sweet ride

If you get a set of Shocks with some lowering springs you will probably get the best ride. You could get like a set of ground control coilover sleeves, tho I dont really care for them. If you lower the car 2 inches you will probably need a camber kit also.

you could lower your car about 1.5 inches w/o camber kit... though you'd still need it aligned. 2 inches or more get a kit.

seems like you want the best ride you can get while still getting the look to draw the chicas. definately get some good shocks to supplement the lowering springs. that will help alot.

Some cars suspension react differently to lowering then others. Some cars even require a camber kit with a 1.5 inch drop others dont. Just have to try it and see.

how much should i expect to pay for all thise?...what do coil sleeves do?...and i dont even know what a camber kit actually does...what the best quality (for the cheap money spenders) items i oughtta get?

well i guess its not really the price im lookin for, more like quality, cuz i could justsave and save ill i get the money, but no more than over 800 i guess but hopefully around 600 i guess

(i really dont know how much a normal drop would be, i know when my friend dropped his se-r it was $1K, but that was with coil overs, and he paid for intallation, cuz he doesnt mess around with his car)

To answer some of your questions:

When you lower your car, it changes the suspension geometry, resulting in negative camber (top of tire leans in). This will result in horrible tire wear if it is bad. Take the car after it is lowered to an alignment shop, and have them tell you how close they can get your camber to stock specs. If they can't get it close enough, you will need a camber kit which allows further adjustment.

As for the coilover sleeves, they are basically just like having height adjustable springs, and you still need a set of struts to go with them. They *usually* offer a fairly harsh ride. I'd stay away from this option if possible and go either for true coilovers (spring and strut are one assembly) or just go with springs and struts.

Nuespeed, H&R, Eibach.. Those are all pretty decent springs.
