Here are my 2 options, which is best?

Ok i have a DOHC ZC that i could build for about 1,500 with aftermarket pistons and rods, but i also have a d16a6 block, would it be better just to put the ZC pistons in the d16a6 block with aftermarket rods? Cause i heard it will give me like 11:1 compression like that. Or should i spend the 1500 and build the ZC? I have all the parts for the d16a6(head, block, cam, tranny) So all i would need is the rods! Should i do this?

what do you want to do in the end? Boost, nitrous, or N/A??

the only advantage of the zc is that it's dohc... which isn't much of an advantage when

A. there are like NO parts for them (cams cam gears) I'm sure you could find lots of stuff that'll fit but that's a pain.
B. it's non-vtec.. Right?
C. it doesn't rev as high or have as much power as the built a6 would...

My recomendation would be to sell the zc motor (cuz it's mad jdm yo and will go for a good price)...
Build the D16bottom end up and put a y8 or z6 head and whatnot on... or just sell both and buy a y8/z6...

then build that up with rods pistons valvetrain etc...

it'll get you the most power and leave you with the least extra worthless bits laying around.

cam timing benifits of dohc are great and all but not worth loosing so many other benifits of the other d series motors.

im plannin on goin N/a No boost or nitrous. Well im tradin the ZC without the pistons and rods for a DC sports 4-2-1 header. And im pretty sure im goin to put the ZC pistons in the d16a6 block and put the d16a6 head on it, giving me like 11.5:1 compression (at least it should be around there) How much HP you think i will be pushin with 11.5:1 compression with DC Sports header?

also I'd see what kinda cash you could get for the zc... that sounds like kinda a raw deal for you.

stock HP is 108, stock compression is less than 9.5:1!

I'd be suprised if it went up to 11:1 probobly more like 10:1 and as far as power...

MAYBE 120hp not more I wouldn't think... and that's crank... you'd be WAY better off selling both motors and buying a y8 or z6... or just the y8 or z6 head... the y8 will up comp. a little more.. and while it's off you could get it milled...

either way you're not going to be making much power out of this combo... better than before but nothing jaw dropping at all...

also if you're swapping pistons rings and rods w.o a rebuild you may end up with it being WAY WAY worse then it was and maybe blowing...

used rings don't seat well in used cylinder walls... the cylinder walls should be honed at least and use new rings.

I'm sure you could get away w.o but I wouldn't risk it or recomend it.

Depending on the piston to deck height(which I'm not sure is dependant on the piston or the block) if its .020(A6 height) then the compression will be 11.3 if its .040(the ZC height) then the compression will be 10.8. Using desktop dyno the jump to 10.8 should get you about 10-12hp over what you got at the flywheel, the 11.3 will get about 3-4hp over that. This was based of a d16z6 engine though so the results could be a little off, I doubt by much though.

The ZC produces more HP out the box so if you changed out the internals you could just bolt on a turbo you could make some real good power.

The A6 can make about the same HP if you swap on a VTEC head. Then the increase in compression will get you more power and still be N/A and still have the ability to use nitrous when using some High ass octane or some kinda substitute like toluene.

i guess it was kinda confusing, but yeah thats what I meant, if the compression ended up being the higher one.
