Doesn't DSL speed depend on you far you are from their local 'routing station' (whatever its called)?
Cable is fast, but you have to see what the company caps their u/l and d/l speeds at.

Yeah, but cable also depends on how many users are using it in your area.
6 of one, half dozen of the other.

you can buy higher bandwidth dsl but its costs more. I'd just go with cable, i think its better than everything else.

Where I live, DSL d/l @ 125 kbs max and u/l @ around 50 kbs.
Cable d/l @ 450kbs max (for some reason everywhere I connected my modem, I was able to hit 600 kbs) and u/l is @ 15 kbs max (pathetic)..

You're quoting kilobytes, and stefan was quoting kilobits on the upload. You have 128kbs ups for example, which nets you about 15kB/s. Stefan, I'd go with cable with those specs.

cable if you download alot, ec... songs, warez, porn.....
DSL if you game online, better ping, and wont get slow down during peak user online time... I am a hardcore gamer, so DSL is what I use... 1.5Mbps down 384k up, on a good game server i get about 30ms Ping, so its pretty good... |

Not sure how it is in Cleveland, but Earthlink in Austin is UP TO 2Mbps and UP TO 384kbps. They do not guarantee a minimum bandwitdh. HoLun: You with SBC? b |

Yup most IPS never tell you what your most likely get they tell you the max you can get. Its all marketing, up till a month or so ago my ISP was 500k/s down and 45k/s up as the max you could get. Now without notice my connection is maxing out @190-200k/s and my upload is 20k/s. When i called in the first day i noticed this they stated that they did this to improve service to some customers that were recieving poor speeds.
They were however well within their rights not to tell me because no where does it state the minimum speed they have to provide, it just has to be faster then 56k and legally you cant do shit. Dam I dont like rogers! edit// btw this is my 2000th post! w00t w00t |

i have DSL at home and am quite happy with it. i get 150-300kb/sec downloads usualy upload is capped at like 45 or 50, but oh well. im on a much faster line at school, and have gotten as high as 7mb/sec download before(happened once) i average 500-1mb/sec though. everyone shold run DSL reports, i got 6.3mbit down 5.9mbit up durring the evening hours(LAN connection, so it was busy)

Since you use mb and mbits, do you mean you got 7 MBps or 7 mbps that one time? 7 mbps is pretty darn fast, if you got 7 MBps, what are you on, optical gigabit or something?
