Hey fellas,
I am putting in my Cold Air Intake this weekend and have heard some stuff about needing to reset my ECU due to the higher airflow.
#1, Shoould I do this and..
#2 if so, any hints on how?
(I know how to take it out and put ti back in!

)

I would say don't. The ECU has long and short term memory. It learns how you drive your car and adapts to it. I would just install the intake, and let the ECU learn that it's there. It takes like 50 restarts or something...don't exactly remember.

Yes, go ahead and reset it. It can only help.

To reset it easily, just pull the neg. batt cable for 5 minutes or so (car is off), and the make sure all accessories are off and start the car w/o hitting the gas. Let it idle for awhile.

ya i've heard it should be reset after every engine mod, is that true?

I would recommend the resetting of rht eECU..It only takes about 10mins or so and it will then better register and perform after the mod. I have also heard abotu doing it after each mod to get a little more from it.

Just remember pull the ECU fuse..Leave it out for like 5mins..then put it back in and start up the ride. NEVER TOUCH THE GAS and let it idle for like 5-7mins or so...

Yes, you should reset the ecu.

I wouldn't reset my ECU if I were you. Generally it will learn things about your engine in the long run and by resetting your killing info it can use later on down the road (or it has to take time to relearn). I had to drive about 260 miles before my Maxima's engline light went off when installing my Frankencar Intake (K&N), I would recommend just waiting.

I'm not sure I agree. Since removing the negative batt cable resets it, people reset the ECU all the time when working on their cars w/o even thinking about it. There haven't been any negative effects yet.

yup, its a very good idea to detach the negative terminal when working on your car. its suggested to do so....

so what about after you had some mods to your engine on for a while?? should you still reset it??

Well, remember. We are on two different systems entirely. On my Maxima nothing resets the ECU except with a computer (even taking battery out for days)
