yeah like 3-5 hp. Go check out AEM, and Ingen sites out. I think they have some dyno graphs.

ya they definately make a difference... at the very least there is a 3% increase in power for every 3 degrees celcius drop in temperature.

switching between my short ram and cold air extension is night and day... and it's not just the noise. (however they are RETARDED loud)

I have raced a buddy of mine several times with it on and off.. with it on he beats me (by a good deal)... when it's off you wouldn't be able to tell I'm racing him. I usually just stop trying to keep up when (it never is anymore) it's on*whoops I mean off/*.

how much of a temp drop do you think is there from a factory intake system to a cold air?

None, the factory intake is a cold air. The aftermarket intakes get rid of all the crap thats used to cancel out sound and consequently robs HP.

...the resonators are replaced by free-flowing mandrel bent pipes... and the piping itself may be larger compared to the stock pipes..that's basically the "technology" behind an aftermarket intake...

EK non vtec models arent utilizing a cold-air setup. its all in the engine bay, right behind the headlight.

and with EX's the filter is still in the engine bay so its sucking the air from the engine bay as opposed to say an AEM CAI where the filter is behind the bumper......temp differences are there, and you also arent using that stock pos piping with all the ripples n shit.

Ya mine sucked it from the engine bay... sure it passes by the same cavity that my cai sucks FROM... but that's not gunna cool down the underhood air as it passes through.

And the baffleing (all for sound deadening) ROBS performance... you think a straight pipe or mandrel bent exhaust effect performance then you should realize that smooth flow is FAR more important on the intake side.

i noticed more of a power increase with an AEM CAI on a D16Y7 than i did with just an exhaust - much more of a difference.

What about the K-series engine? I have a DC Sport short ram intake... is there any extensions for this intake to make it CAI?... Also, doesn't this engine run better on Short Ram anyway? I notice a good difference in power with the Shrt Ram.. I don't really have anything to compare to as far as CAI but I notice difference from stock

there is a 3% increase in power for every 3 degrees celcius drop in temperature....

so ya it should'nt matter what engine you have... colder air will yield higher power (as long as the ecu accomadates with more fuel).

Where did you find that? I've always thought it was ~1%/10 degrees. In addition to that, you gain power from better piping, better air flow, etc.

3%/3' seems like way too much to me.

ya I just found 1% for 11 degrees F...

I'm not sure where I got 3% for 3 C.... oh wait it was hondata...

but I was wrong it was 10 C...

"10 degrees C which is good for around 3 percent power increase."

it was taken from: Hondata->Product-> "heatshield"

and as far as better flow... I think aem might have a little better flow than the stock... and probobly better than a short ram as well.

and i don't think piping quality effects performance... if it's a hollowed out piece of firewood and it outflows or better insulates heat than nice polished tubing I'd go w/ the fire wood... plus that'd be MAD diy Y0!.

Yeah, I agree. I didn't word my post very well. I meant better piping as in piping shaped well for airflow. Its all about the airflow and intake temp.
