STDs: a question related to GT40FIED's post

Ok.....so this idea is sparked from GT40FIED's post on herpes commercials. (plug: thanks, GT40FIED, for posting some of the most interesting/highly contested and/or debated topics)

What would you do if you met someone who was open/upfront about an STD he/she has/had? Hypothetically speaking, we'll assume you like the person, otherwise the question is moot.

For has, we'll assume a non-curable disease such as HPV, HIV, herpes, etc.

For had, we'll assume a curable disease such as syphillis, gonhorrhea, chlamydia, etc.

As for me.....I'm not sure what I'd do. A good part of me really believes in the idea of giving everybody a chance. Especially if it is a treatable disease, and even more especially if it has been treated.

However, I cannot honestly say I have experienced love yet. I have had friends who have tried to explain it to me, and from the very fact that I do not totally understand what they have been saying, I can say I have not experienced it. From what they've said, I can say that if I experience love it won't really matter to me.......it's a romantic idea that a part of me clings to. I like to believe that I'll meet someone who I'll gladly sacrifice my life for without thought, someone who I'll endure their pains of a disease just to be with them and comfort them......

But I still don't know what I'd do......

Ahhhh...I inspire yet another thread. Thanks spooge...I aim to piss off/inspire/get drunk and fall over. I suppose it depends on how drawn to this person I was. At one point my ex thought she might have had herpes (this was before we slept together) and she was very upfront about it. After many talks and 2 trips together to get tested for everything (and both of not having anything come up positive), we started sleeping together but strictly with protection. That's why those commercials piss me off so much. I saw a risk situation and took steps to protect myself. Whether or not my ex actually had herpes (it's almost impossible to tell without a break-out) doesn't even matter...you see a potential for a problem and take preemptive measures to safeguard yourself. If I really cared for someone it wouldn't matter unless it's AIDS/HIV. Everything else is either cureable or at least non-terminal. Even if I HAD gotten herpes, it's just like luggage...it's with you for life. It doesn't shorten your life. Just get yourself tested twice a year and protect yourself and you should be good to go.

well... from experience, i know a girl who has STDs and well... although i was really attracted to her, i no longer look at her that way. she is still a very good friend, and maybe even a better friend cause of that, but as far as a relationship is conserned... thats out of the question
