me vs. 240 with nos

i just raced a nissan 240(the generation before the 1992 models, not the flip-up-frontlight ones). i think he has a K-motor. he told me(we were shouting out the window talking to each other after the race)that he ran 95 shot of nos, and i told him that i have the greddy kit. the whole time during the race(we went up to 60~70mph)we were around each other. at first i was half car faster than him, but than he caught up and was half car ahead of me, then i caught up again(while he was changing gear or working on the nos, i dont know much about nos). the whole time was like this. so i just wonder how many hp i might have on my car. is my car slow(have i not tune it right?)? can the turbo do much better or it is just it? (i was running 8.5 psi)i dont usually do that, man, that really hurt my engine!

that's not bad at all considering he has a k-motor with 95 shot, that should be along the lines of your hp gain from the turbo right there...don't stress it, nitrous kicks in faster than turbos, and also considering his car is rwd with more torque thx to the original engine plus the nitrous, nothing's wrong with ur car at all....

but think about it, the 240 k-motor has at least 100+ hp and with the nos he added in(95 shot)(i was wondering myself that if he really said 95, or 75, but that's a big difference though), then he'd must be running 200+ hp at that time! and there is no way my car can reach 200 hp at this time, then how did i kept up with him?

if the greddy kit can give me 30-40%(with 5psi, i think)hp gain, then for the ex(127) would be 165-177 hp. and i was running 8psi at that time(so maybe 185-190hp), but cant be more than 200 hp though.

hope u guys can tell me why. i dont think i misheard him.

yeah, 95 shot did sound kinda funny...

you also have to take into consideration exactly when he activated the laughing gas.

The 240 K engine had 155hp stock. If he did not have flip-up headlights, then it was 95 or newer (up to 98 I believe). So a 75-shot with no other mods would give him around 230hp at the crank, maybe about 200hp to the wheels. If he had the basic upgrades, expect that number to be a little higher.

I'd say you did pretty well.

no no, sorry i dint explain well enough. his 240 is the older ones than the flip-light ones. if the flip-light(around 1992) is 3rd gen, then his must be 2nd gen. but not the newer 4th or 5th gen(i dont really know what gen, just for example).

NOS? NOS = Nitrous Oxide Systems. It's like my mom's '87 XR7 Cougar with turbo and saying it has got greddy. Or if I get new springs for my 57 saying "I got new eibachs". It's inaccurate is all.

Just trying to help you sound a little like you know what you are talking about... but there's no help there when you talk a bout a 95 shot.. who makes a 95 shot? Even a so called 50 shot or 100 shot doesn't put out the actual 50 or 100 hp..

Look, there were only 3 versions of the Nissan 240SX released in the United States. It was introduced in the 87/88 model year. From 87/88 all the way up to 94, they had flip lights. Nissan changed the engine in 1991, but that was all they changed, so not really a NEW gen or anything. Then they changed the body quite a bit in 95, putting in fixed headlights. The car stayed that way until it stopped production in 97/98. If you raced a 240SX without flip-up headlights, then it was 95-98 version, otherwise it wasn't a 240SX.

I don't know what else to tell you.

v8,

u r actually right at this point. i told u i was wondering about it too. remember we were shouting out of the window when we were going 40something mph. i wasnt even sure if i heard him right. but according to my car's horse power, 75 shot looks more right...

then i think it had flipup lights then. i know it's older then the '92 240 becuz my friend has one. and i know the one that i raced was an even older model becuz the taillights were different from the '92. and my other friends have the newer(fixed light)240.

my friend told me that the older 240 might have less hp and less trq than the '92.

and i dint really notice when he activated the nos though. since i rarely race with other ppl, i was very concentrating on my own car.

we have some very nice mountain roads here in half moon bay(just like the ones in Initial D). so i m setting up my car more towards handling.

Just say spray. It's easier that way than trying to enlighten the masses.

Oh yeah, it's nitrous until I say otherwise, capishe?

Turbos take time to spool. Nitrous is instant. That's the joy.

i cant believe people are actually arguing over this. i realize nos is a term, but it is inaccurate. whether it is NOS or nos, it doesnt matter, nitrous is the correct term, or n2o. but i cringe whenever someone inappropriately uses "nos" because it makes us sport compact enthusiasts look like ricers.

Someone needs to get a life. Obviously that movie wasn't meant to be an accurate portrayal of street racing (hence the undercover cop and truck robbing ring). It doesn't give anyone a bad name because we all know that isn't us.

As for the NOS vs. N2O vs. Nitrous thing, who cares how someone refers to it. We all know what someone is talking about when they refer to any of the three terms. Maybe when he says NOS he is actually running a NOS system as opposed to Zex or Venom? Quit hating on import guys V8killin, it's not our fault your overweight, overdisplaced pile of iron can't hang with the new generation of hot rods. I suggest you trade that thing in for something that runs the 1/4 twice as fast and gets twice as many miles per gallon.

Did you ever think that someone might have spent the money on a front end conversion? I have seen tons of first gen 240's with Sylvia front ends installed. It's the hot thing for 240 owners. And it's pretty inexpensive and great looking mod.

sigh.. here we go again.. first off, why do you drive a girl's car? Del Sol for god's sake? 1/4 mile twice as fast as it does? And gas milage... I have a 94 civic Si..yes that's the speeddemon VTEC you guys cream your pants over.. I DO NOT get 35mpg.. I get about 25.. and it is a nice peppy little car, but not fast at all.. I know you guys shit your pants and hold on to your oh shit handles when you run 17's..but for me it's not.. If you had something like a 300 you could talk.. but considering you have a Del Sol.. well, I am embarassed for you. And I am sorry, but you can't run 8's in the 1/4 and get 50mpg.. About the NOS thing.. well say what you want but it sounds funny.. what if I called spoilers dildos? Hey guys I am gonna put a huge dildo and put it on my car. That sounds almost as stupid. And most of you guys don't use NOS (Nitrous Oxide Systems) asfar as I have seen.

it's actually not funny for u to put a "real" dildo on ur car since u r all that horny...

hmm, u r very stubborn. u know there is a guy named "abc" here in the forum who drives a domestic car like u do? he's a good man. he appreciates his domestic cars and he also appreciates import cars. therefore he calls himself a "car guy", which i think he deserves.

hey! we werent the ones who started talking sh*t about domestic cars, ok? u were the one who jumped right in this forum sh*ting everybody. why r u doing this to us? it is not our fault that ur girlfriend/wife is being a slut and sleeping with ur brother? hey! we do appreciate cars, both domestics and imports, becuz we all like cars. there's a big difference between u and us. just like monkey to human.

go ahead and stick ur dildo into ur exhaust, and dont worry about it, we wont laugh at u, cuz we appreciate what horny ppl do to their cars.
