The effect of I/H/E

I was talking to a friend of mine, (i have a 1.6ltr 1998 Civic Hatch) and he was telling me that an intake and filter would do nothing, and an exaust would be waisting my money, (all it will do is add a note). I am interested in preformance.

Do you agree with him, what should i do for preformance.

I want an exaust, but you need headers for an exaust system to work well.

well i/h/e will do something. for one, mods like those are good to do in case you decide to do future mods,so that your engine can handle it for example turboing. and these alone will add maybe 10-15 hp to the wheels and your car will sound nice as all hell if you do things right

I agree, in a almost stock for I/H/E will probably do just about nothing... But they are a good starting point for bigger mods especially Forced Induction of some type or a Strong NA buildup. If I/H/E are all you are wanting to do and you think itll help then you probably shouldnt even bother wasting your money, unless you just want them for looks.

It all depends what you're looking for. If it's 30+hp you want, yes you will be sorley dissapointed. But for a quick 10+whp, I/H/E is the way to start. Really, the #1 bang for the buck is the intake. A CAI (AEM or other) will make a noticeable difference (it did on my cars) in your car's pickup. Shaved a couple ticks off my 1/4 mile time too. The header and exahust together don't make as much as a good CAI, but they do add the the mix. I suggest going with a CAI first, leave the header and exahust for later.

Remember, this is just a 1.6L engine, it doesn't need a 3" exahust to flow well. Upgrade to a 2" Si catback and you're in good shape, not to mention $2-400 richer than if you pay for a big name catback.

Exactly those mods can give you roughly 10HP...I mena yes there are mods you can do to give you more HP other than that but it's a great starting point unless you have an endless $ supply to do what you want or get a turbro or something of that nature..

it's not worth getting a header if you are goin to get a turbo or swap but 9 times out of 10 you can still use the intake and exhaust..

Hope this helps a little more...

What exactly do you want to know? This is where your car inhales air from outside and routes it via the tubing to the TB, then onto the manifold before heading into the combustion chamber and burned off with fuel. CAI's different from any other intake because of where they pick up the air they breathe. Most intakes breathe air from under the hood, which as you know after few mins get's VERY hot. The high the ambient temp of air, the smaller it's oxygen content becomes. Oxygen is the catalyst that burns when mixed with fuel and compressed inside the combustion chamber. So to put it simply, the more the oxygen, the stronger the enery released. So we want the most oxygen we can fit in the engine over a set period of time, and as we know, the colder the ambient tempature of the air, the higher it's oxygen content, therefore the more energy is released upon combustion translating to more power.

Technically it doesn't count as forced induction.
