gearing question

I'm going to be getting a B16a2 in the next week or so and the place where I will most likely get it from has a 4.785 final drive and a 4th and 5th gear from a gsr that they could install befor they ship it?
I'm deffinately going to do the final drive, but i'm wondering about how the 4th and 5th gear set will change the performance of they engine?

the two gears would run about $100 so i'm wondering if it is a worthwhile thing to have installed.

Also the motor is going to come with a Honda factory LSD, I'm pretty excited because right now i just have a d15 in my 92 LX

thanks all
Sean

here is the stats on the gearing for the two trannies
I couldn't figure out exactly what the tranny code is for the b15a2 but the tranny code for the GSR is S80

these are the gear ratios I found

B16a2 5 speed manual
1st gear- 3.230
2nd gear- 2.105
3rd gear- 1.458
4th gear- 1.107
5th gear- .848
Final Drive Ratio- 4.40

GSR 5 speed manual
1st gear- 3.230
2nd gear- 2.105
3rd gear- 1.458
4th gear- 1.034
5th gear- .787
Final Drive Ratio- 4.785

thanks for the help
Sean

I think its a pretty good idea, especially if your keeping it naturally aspirated. The final drive will increase acceleration a good deal while the 4th & 5th will allow for cruising at a somewhat low rpms on the highway.

Good point, it would suck to be in 5th gear and running 4-5k rpm on the freeway.

Do you know of an internet site or something where you can plug in gear ratios and get rpm and speed data?

thanks

Don't the gsr/type R final drives not fit in the b16's tranny??

I just read a thread over on h-t that someone asked why his fd wouldn't fit in his b16 tranny and the answer was that it's a different size...

not positive though.

decided not to do it anyway
I went with a b16 that had the LSD tranny and decided to save the money I would have spent on gears and spend it on suspension or something

'Good Choice. The gearing was pretty similar on both. Better to just get the LSD and spend teh extra on something else.
