Traction problems with a 86 CRX Si

When my friend and I leave work at 2 in the morning, we speed home. I usually leave the light at around 4500 - 5500 rpm. I will spin the wheels but the car will still move forward and I will only chirp second. For the last couple days I launch the same way but when I change to second I lose all forward movement and I just burnout for about 2 or 3 seconds. I shift at 7000 rpm and by the time I get into 2nd gear i am at 6200 rpm. My rpm is around 6700 to 7000 when my car regains traction. Anyone have any idea why this would happen. I know the car manual says my redline is at 6500 but the car will go up to 7300. Also I don't know what type of clutch the car has but it will hold whatever you throw at it.
