first gear shifting ... good or bad?

Is it bad for your car to redline in first gear? I only have intake on my car, 03 civic Si... I redline a lot... more than I probably should.. but is that bad or does it not even matter with stock cars?

heh, you shouldn't really redline with any car. i bet your owner's manual says "do not race the engine unless it's an emergency". in time it will wear the engine.

i'm sure everytime you redline in every gear will wear your car faster....its still fun to "run through your gears"...or shifting for that matter..

the car is designed to redline, if the manufacture didnt want you reving the engine that high they'd put a lower rev limiter.

even if it was designed to redline.... there will be greater wear at 7 grand than at 3 grand...unless u can prove the law of physics wrong...

its not going to ruin the engine, just like driving at 100mph isnt going to ruin the car.

sure, thats why my civic has over 100,000miles with alot of "redlining" being done in its life time and yet it still runs great. hmmm maybe I have a freak engine or something.

if you all are going to worry about reving the engine why even bother doing stuff to make the car faster or owning a honda period.

if the thought of doing some maitenance or replacing some parts a little earlier scares you then just drive it like a old granny.

^ i agree MAn the ENGINE is MADE to do it..... i have REDLINED 1-2-3 every time i drive and I have had NO ENGINE problems... my TIMING BELT when changed monday at 118,000 miles was PERFECT.....not a single sign of wear.....

my transmission and clutch are a different story though...
i called honda and asked the people what the engine was DESIGNED to do, and i was told by everyone there that the redline is the limit, anywhere in between is FINE, yes im sure u will have more WEAR at 6-7k then shifting at 3-4k will.

but WHO the F*CK wants to pussyfoot at 3-4 k when driving an engine that is designed to rev HIGH.

Cavaliers will throw a r0d because they SUCK. until the SRT-4 i have not seen a Domestic car under 20k that was made to drive like a honda.

then again i drive my Ford Ranger the same way i drive my CIvic and i have only had Clutch problems with that.. NEVER had ANY engine problems...>YET>>>>>knock on WOOD..*knocking very hard*

any hoo i say "DRIVE IT LIKE U STOLE IT"

O yeah i had my Valves adjusted the other day after 118k miles and i was told that they were BARELY out of adjustment AND that the only problem with my engine is that because i am lazy and change my oil at 5-7k miles, there are still no problems related to that YET *knocking onm wood at furious pace*

so do what u want

Dan

well...that's what i like about my Honda.....great reliability, i'm sure if you were to redline a cavalier/neon/sunfire then something might go wrong..

*hoping i didn't start an import vs. domestic war*

i hate them, i grew up in a Chevy/Ford area and when i bought my first car i got a friggin HONDa instead of a shitty Cavalier or escort

I can relate to this...I have redlines all my gears except 5th and that is only and i mean ONLY because the car wount go fast enough to reach the limiter in fith. But for all those people who say 'I have never redlind my engine" Well your a liar. Rather it be street racing or on the track you have and least see the red line once. Obviusly there will be more were but what fun is it to drive like your sane????

the geekz0r (11:04:16 PM): so 2nd pulls like 1st in the 5speed, 3rd is like 2nd, etc.
PortugeeTex (11:04:26 PM): so whats 1st like then?
the geekz0r (11:04:49 PM): 1st is like hitting a cheeta in the ass with a tazer
PortugeeTex (11:04:53 PM): lmfao

the only thing i know of happening at really high revs is the chance of a rocker arm breaking. my friend broke one in his bimmer hitting the rev limiter in 4 gear going like 120. so im my opinion hit the limiter everytime...

hell yeah there is, and hitting it is some scary shit... cause it is at 120mph
i mean on I 95 i rarely see less than 80 *all the traffic is like that*
so it wouldnt be such a big deal hittig it on 3-4 lane highway.. but hitting it on 2 lane road with LOW shoulders is SCArY
