Swappin time!

Well, its been a long hard road (workin and savin the money for my motor) but im almost there.
In about a month and a half, i should have the estimated 3.5k plus dollars to get a B16a2 from Hmotorsonline.com , autometer racing tach, and a short shifter from DC sports.

My shop is only charging me 400$ to put in the motor, and one of the guys at the shop is buying my battered (but not beaten) D16Z6 w/140,000 miles for 200$.

What do you guys think about my plans (dont try to convince me to buy another motor cause ive thought long and hard bout this)?
What things should i watch out for when putting in the new motor? What common problems are associated with engine swap installations.

Thanks for your input.

order the motor from steve from hmo, he always gets people the best shi-at...or so im told

sounds like a plan...im jealous...

you might want to keep the d16 just incase something goes wrong down the road and you need a motor...$200 is a sweet deal for him though

did you completely not read the part where he said don' t convince him to get another motor?

good choice, but you could get everything for a LOT cheaper than 3500. I suggest looking around junkyards near you for a b16... can pick them up for CHEAP!!!

Opak - thanks for the tip - considering when you first signed in here at HS you had me PM you a zillion times with questions about what the different strengths and weeknesses of all the B-Series motors are.

I do realize the GSR has more torque, but i can't justify the extra 800+ $ that are required for me to purchase the motor. It's different, but not That different.

BTW - Horsepower = torque X rpm (divided by some # which i forgot) so if i have less torque, but more RPM's, i get good power regardless.

point well considered

I figure with the money i save on my motor (since the b16 only costs 2300, i can redo other stuff like struts/tiebars)

Almost right. The number is 5252. So for instance if you make 120 lb/ft of torque at 4000 rpm:

120 x 4000 = 480000 / 5252 = ~91 horsepower. Not too impressive...

However lets say you make 120 lb/ft of torque at 7000 rpm..

120 x 7000 = 840000 / 5252 = ~159 horsepower. Much better!

So the trick is to make torque at high rpm. BTW this isn't very easy unless you have variable valve timing like the VTEC system because one camshaft can't work very well all the way up to 7000+ rpm...

id rather make power down low.......less wear and tear on the motor.....
high revving is what wears down motors......

anyway.....good luck with the swap.

Yea, well i guess you didn't really take your own advice...but thanks for your time explaining it to me, and i hope you like your b16....i have a friend that has one and hates it cause the lack of torque.

Well, i thank you for your advice (even OPAK ) - I'd like to clairify that i do not plan to spend 3.5k on just the motor - that figure includes the motor, lsd tranny, installation, shipping, new tach, and short shifter.
