Home networking help...

Hey guys, I'm trying to network a couple of computers so I can share internet access. I have a Belkin router, the host cpu is running ME, and the computer I'm trying to connect is running XP home.

I got the host computer to get internet access. Also, both computers can see and use the network perfectly. My only problem is that I cannot get internet access with the connected computer running XP. Any ideas? I'd really like to get this working.

Thanks

isn't the router supposed to run as a host and all the others computers as slaves ? i know my linky does that.

last time i tried something like this i used a proxy server on my win2k machine (back then), and setup all the apps to run thru special ports on my computer. what model is your roter ? maybe i can do some more research for you

hondaman is right..

the router will be the host.

try resetting everything to how it was, hook up cables, and restart all the equipment (disconnect power)..
After doing that, you may need to restart the computers one more time, but this time dont cut power to the router.

Thanks for the help guys. I incorrectly worded my first post. The computer that was originally hooked up to the cable internet service works.

You guys gave me an idea though. I think I set my computer (the xp model) to "connect to the internet thru another computer", and I obviously shouldn't have done that. I'll go switch things around and let you know how it works.

Well, I switched the settings around and that didn't solve the problem. I ended up manually putting in the DNS servers and it finally worked for me.
