Locked Shifter??

I just purchased a 2005 Honda Accord EX 4DR a few weeks ago from a used Toyota Dealer. As of yesterday, my shifter would be locked in the "P" (park) position and would not shift into the "D" (drive) position. And yes I had my foot on the brake and the car was fully turned on, so now each time before I start my car I have to manually override the shifter by putting my key in the hole next to the shifter than putting it into neutral. Does anyone know why this is happening, how I can fix it, and if it's ok to drive my car like this for the next few days until I get it to the dealer or my mechanic.

Edit- The 3 year 36,000 Honda warranty is not valid as this car as the car now has 50,000 miles

Any help is appreciated!
