question for HondaManiac

honda just wondering if you can help me out. i have a 1991 honda accord lx. for some reason my car has kicked its self into sport mode and it seems to be in high gear. i cant accelerate fast and i only pick up speed when im already going fast. i am not sure what the problem is. Maybe the linker cable. Please i need all the help i can get.

Are you the one I talked to on AIM?

I forget... does it kick itself OUT of sport mode afterward?

ok im not that dumb its not in sport. At first it would kick its self off and then it wouldnt happen for like a week or so, Now its on all the time and the only time it stops is when i keep a constant speed which has to be really really slow. in this mode it redlines at 2500 rpm any help is appreciated

Its a thing in 4th gen autos that keeps it in gear slightly longer before it shifts, etc. Just a little quicker. Sort of like an overdrive button.

when was the last time you changed the tranny oil ? i had the same problem with mine, then i changed the oil and it was fine. try to do 2 oil changes at 3000 miles and you will see some improvements. sao you are saying the the s light will come on by itself in the dash ? maybe there is a short somewhere, or the ecu is just acting dumb.

for mobbo and 94_AcCoRd_EX: the sports mode is only for 90&91 accords. for the 92 model year they changed the tranny to apx4 and in 93 to MPXA. the worst tranny of all is the 92 model.

a1Honda... i wasn't trying to say you were stupid... just the simple things sometimes pass people by. happens to all of us at some point. also... you may have a short in your wiring to the box that controls the sport mode.

no, becuse i don't have a sports mode. my tranny computer is supposed to put it in the sports mode without me knowing it. maybe it is your VRC valve that needs cleaning. my dad's subaru does the same thing

i cut the wire to the sports mode. now it turns on/off my sub amp.

it doesn't really help at all. lets it rev another 500-1000 rpms but you can do that just by controlling the pedal.
