replace axle, or just boot?
I just had my passenger side cv boot break, there is no knocking around corners yet. I have never had to fool with axles before, should I replace it, or can I just replace the boot? My Haynes manual mentions replacing only the boots, but it is definitely not clear about it.
also, if anyone knows anything about turbos, I really need help with my budget boost project, here is the post. |

I went to Advance, they had a quick-replace boot for 92-95 civics, but not for the 96. This boot just wraps around the axle, and then seals using several screws, no need to pull out the axle.
I am leaning toward a boot replacement for now, because I am going to install a new clutch soon (really soon when I finish my budget turbo setup) and I may replace the axle then. My question is, will the 95 civic EX CV quick replace boot fit (or fit well enough) on my 96? I am not familiar enough with the difference between these axles to know. It doesn't have to be perfect, since I will replace the axle during my clutch install. |

the boots should be nearly (if not completely) identical.

go to autozone- get a 69 dollar replacement axle with a lifetime warranty and replace it. i broke my axle a few days ago and replaced mine. if i had the tool to remove the ball joint i woulda had it done in half an hour, but i didnt so it took some time.

Save the time and trouble and just replace the whole half shaft.
