custom turbos.. any good?

are they as effective , more or less wear ? i think they are cheaper... holla

any specific car for the custom turbo or just cars in general?....i think it depends on who builds em....

a custom turbo is good if u know how to build it. sometimes it will come out better than the kits that you will buy, but it all depends on how much time you wanna put in it and how knowledgeable you are

by the way, what else should you get when getting a turbo kit (blowoff valve, intercooler, etc etc).

okay, it's a combination of everything. i have a GReddy turbo but if i can do it again, i would have put together my own. GReddy turbos are the bomb however i think i could've saved more money and come out with a better set-up. the biggest things to consider on any force induction is tuning capabilities. meaning, you must ample spark and fuel to have a more efficient and reliable set-up. keep doing researches until you get comfortable with the subject before you start buying parts. a frankenstein turbo relies in harmony of fuel and spark requirements.

yeah, i'm just asking if there is anything you'd strongly reccomend i get along in addition to the turbo kit, umm something that will either increase performance or decrease engine wear

You might want to get some gauges (air/fuel ratio/Oil Temp/Oil Pressure/EGT) to make sure that your car is running in good condition. You will also need a turbo timer to prolong the life of your turbo. The greddy kit doesn't come with a blow off valve so you should get that as well. Always use 91 octane and make sure that your radiator is in good working order. You might also wanna get an oil cooler. I got my B&M oil cooler for only $150. So you might want to consider that. ALso, if you don't have an exhaust already, you might want to get one. I didn't have one when i got the kit and after i got it. I noticed a hella lot of differance...... Yeah i think this should cover it....... Also, if you have the money, you should upgrade your ignition. Mine costed me over $300 bucks for the MSD ignition, COil, and wires and etc....

if you are planning on a daily driven turbo, then i strongly advice small turbos. smaller turbos are usually quicker in spool time. if u plan to customize one. i suggest to get a used TDO5 or T28's. these turbos are all over the place. try these combination:
-TDO5 or T28 from a junkyard (internal wastegate)= $50-75
-Custom manifold from Revhard= $300-400
-custom piping from a muffler shop (including the downpipe)= $150-200
-vortech FMU 12:1= $100-150
-GReddy BOV typeS= $100-150 or bosch universal BOV= $??? i'm sure it's cheaper
-Ractive filter= $100
-used starion intercooler =$100-150 (if you get lucky).....check out e-bay.
-miscellaneous (vacuum hoses, clamps, PVC rubber connectors, fittings, teflon tape, check valves, loctite, etc)= $50
-GReddy (or any turbo timer)= $75-150
-a/f ratio or EGT gauge and boost gauge= $100

these are the basic stuff and the prices are not acurate, but close enough.
