no clutch resistance

hey guys i just test drive this 89 integra LS that i might buy for $500.00. needs some work like brakes, cv joints, and all that good stuff. im going to be driving this car for about 4 months as i will be covering my mustang for the winter.

my question is when i took it for a drive and pushed on the clutch i almost put my foot through the panel. there was almost no resistance what so ever but it still shifted gears fine. it was hard to find the grab point but maybe i just need to drive it more. is this normal that there was no resistance? or maybe theres no hydraulic pressure in the clutch? any suggestions?

if it shifted fine i don't think there is a problem...but if you can't shift...try pumping it while you drive it...but don't do it too long...get it to a mechanic asap...or check it out yourself...whatever you prefer.

When you press on it, is there some play? If there's alot of play it could be nearing time for a clutch. Being that its an 89 its probably over due.

i cant tell if theres play or not. its so light to the touch almost like pressing the gas pedal. probably even lighter than that. but it still shifts fine so im wondering if its just im not used the car as i never evven drove a acura integra/honda.

Your Stang would have alot more resistance. That could be the issue. If it shifts ok, then its likely alright.

it should be fine. the japanese clutches don't oppose too much resistance.

Nope, not on a stock clutch anyhow.

If it really becomes a problem, check your master and slave cylinders. When mine went out, my clutch would easily push the floor and them randomly catch on the way back up. Sometimes it would grab a couple of inches off the floor.
