I highly doubt they have done the draft lottery already. And if I remember correctly it wasn't the month you were born in, you were assigned a number and then they lottery out to see what number is chosen. Then all the people with that number get a gun and go shoot stuff.

Nowadays military is not measured in sheer numbers. There will never be another war of attrition like WWI or WWII. The likelihood that a massive military force would be needed is low. With high altitude bombing and precision guided bombs and missiles, you can probably just bomb an enemy into submission(with exception of terrorist groups). The focus of our military now is speed and stealth. The ability to be anywhere in the world at anytime for any reason and have nobody know. Yes our standing military number is down, but what about our active special forces? Their numbers increase every year because they are the future of warfare.

man I can't wait to get a laser though, and maybe a hoverboard finally, that'd be tight.

I'm not sure that anyone read this or heard about it or remembers it or posted about it. I was reading People. Or at least I'm 95% sure that it was. It was some news related magazine and there was a quote section. This was right after 9/11. President Bush said something about "Not wanting to fire a ($) million dollar missile at a $10 empty tent and hit a camel in the butt". I can't remember how much he said the missile was but that's pretty damn close to what he said. I thought it was pretty funny coming from our President. I don't know. All this talk of camels reminded me of it.

I think this whole draft and war thing is being blown out of proportion. I am a member of the Air Force, and have heard nothing of a draft in any way. We have a totally capable force and can deal with Saddam just as easily as we did 12 years ago. I believe it is a right and privledge to serve this country. We should help the less fortunate and those unable to protect themselves. That is our responsibility.

Wow, I can't believe how much some of you are getting worked up over this. Me personally, if there were a draft, I would go in a heartbeat, but they most likely wouldn't take me (besides the fact that I'm a girl). The last time the US has actually DECLARED war on another country was in 1941 when we were sorta "forced" into WWII by the Japanese. Vietnam, Korea, the "Gulf War", the "War on Terrorism"....not a single one of them was a war on another country. The US has only declared war 5 times in it's history. Every other battle we've been in has been just that a battle/operation...whatever you wanna call it besides a war. I truely don't think any of you that aren't envolved in the military somehow at this point have anything to worry about being drafted. Someone previously said something to the effect of Saddam and Bin Laden want just what they are getting...the American public with they're panties up in a bunch and worried. Go about everyday business like you typically would. It's a different world we live in now. Sure we do have to make some sort of adjustments, but surely becoming hermits and staying in school for an entire decade and only coming out of a university with a BA/S in Communications or Computer Sci is definitely a waste of time and money. Just relax and don't sweat this draft stuff.
