Exhaust question

Am i thinking of buying headers for my car. Anyways, my question is if i were to get headers, what would be a good set up for exhaust piping to the muffler? And if i weren't to get headers, what would be a good setup for that situtation as well? (what i mean is like thickness/brand of piping and muffler type)
