Queen's 'pride' at 50 year reign

LONDON, England -- Queen Elizabeth II has said she looks back "with measured pride" at her 50-year reign.

In a keynote speech marking the climax of the Golden Jubilee celebrations she reflected on her 50 years as monarch.

She said: "It has been a pretty remarkable 50 years by any standards -- there have been ups and downs.

"But anyone who can remember what things were like after those long six years of war appreciates what immense changes have been achieved since then.

"Not everyone has been able to benefit from the growth of wealth and prosperity but it has not been for lack of political will.

"I think we can look back with measured pride on the last 50 years."

She caused laughter when she said she was aware that there was some interest in football at the moment -- a reference to the World Cup.....

....On Monday night a similar number thronged the street around Buckingham Palace while a lucky audience of 12,000 saw the cream of the pop world give a special concert. (Full story)

"We feel proud of you; proud and grateful for everything you have done for your country and the Commonwealth over 50 extraordinary years," her son and heir Prince Charles said in an emotional tribute after the concert.

LONDON, England -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth II joined 12,000 revellers at Buckingham Palace for a star-studded pop concert as her Golden Jubilee celebrations reached their climax Monday night.

Legendary names including Sir Paul McCartney, ex-Beach Boys star Brian Wilson, Sir Elton John, Joe Cocker and Eric Clapton performed at "Party in the Palace."

Earlier in the day, thousands lined the streets of Windsor, west of London, to catch a glimpse of the monarch, celebrating 50 years on the UK throne

mt.bikers side note: it was a night to remember if any of you were checking out the telli last night you would have seen an amazing show put on for the queen.
