Better video drivers?

I benchmarked my computer again today, and was kind of disappointed. I talked to a couple friends of mine on ways to improve my score. Aside from overclocking things, they said that a way to improve scores were to get better drivers for my video card. My understanding was that drivers were only available from the maker of the card. Are there other places to get drivers that could boost performance?
