and bond does it again!

If anyone could break Harry Potter’s spell, it would stand to reason it’s the legendary super spy double-oh-seven. James Bond has done what many figured wouldn’t be accomplished for a few weeks at least. He knocked the boy wonder out of first place in the weekend box office at North American theatres.

“Die Another Day,” the 20th adventure flick in Bond franchise history, took in an estimated $47-million US in its opening weekend. That’s the best debut ever for the man who never fails to stand tall where most others would easily crumble. The film bumped last weekend's top earner, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” to number two.

Rapper and movie star Ice Cube opened way back in third place with his movie “Friday After Next,” the third in his series of “Friday” urban comedies.

“The Santa Clause 2” and “8 Mile” rounded out the top five. And Kevin Kline's “The Emperor's Club,” about a prep-school teacher's relationship with a troublesome teen, debuted at number seven.

Meanwhile, there’s great news for the sleeper hit of the year. Last week, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, the top-grossing independent film of all time, crossed the $200-million US mark.
