I drink a cup of coffee every morning for the caffeine (sp?). I drink it straight and it seems to wake me up for those early morning workouts.

little story for you Mt...

I USED to drink TONS of coffee... I was one of those "coffee rats" that you see at midnight sitting in Denny's or wherever your local all day breakfast stop is... I would sit and drink like probably 20 cups a night.. then go home and go to bed.

it seems that caffine never affected me back then like it does now... BUT after a while of doing this, and smoking ciggies.. I started to develop a small problem.. approximately anywhere from a 3-5mm problem. I started getting kidney stones YEOWCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

over the period of 3 years I had 18 of the goddamn things.. let me tell you, that women who have done both, compare the pain as worse than child birth. There were times when I would curl up on the hardwood floors crying in pain because the surface of the floor was cool and somehow this helped. I was taken to the emergency room on 3 seperate occasions for these.

After a few had been passed and analyzed, the doctor stuck me on medication which he said I would have to take for the rest of my life. I am a person who HATES taking medication of any sort for more than a day or two... so I changed my lifestyle a bit, switched to pepsi or coke, and changed from full flavored ciggies, to lights. I also only ever took 3 of those pills before I decided that they sucked and I didnt want to take them anymore.

I havent had a kidney stone in over 8 years now. I dont know if it was the coffee, the ciggies, or the caffine that affected me... but something was causing it that does not now.

I still drink coffee, just not in as excessive of quantities. I am a huge Starbuck's fan myself as are the rest of my family members.. hell my sister is even a manager at one down in Dallas... but anything is best in moderation in my belief.

As well, whenever I drink coffee now a days, I also seem to always be taking a TUMS or 2 along with it because it causes me to get some SERIOUS heartburn.

Just my thoughts on it, everyone must decide for themselves what is enough, and what is excessive. Just thought I would share past history.

caffiene is a drug...and like most drugs it's addicting...thats probably whats happening to you now...
you're gonna have to keep drinking more and more to get the same effect you do now...
just take it easy..and don't go overboard...

If I make myself coffee when I wake up, I drink a few small cups. Other than that, I don't drink too much.

Drink enough of it and it'll give ya problems. When my dad tried to quit coffee drinking entirely, he suffered major headaches and couldn't sleep for some time. It took him a while to get off of it, and he was only drinking 2-3 cups a day, just over a long period of time.

If you want caffeine in a source that isn't as bad for you, try tea. Green tea, especially, has other health benefits that outweight the negative effects of the caffeine. It doesn't have quite the zest of a cup of joe, and is no comparison to Starf*cks in the caffeine department, but it's good and decently good for ya. I have 1 cup of green tea each day....I can't say it keeps me awake, but it sure tastes good. Then I don't have to load on sugar, like cheap coffee....

I hate Starf*cks anyways.....they shut down a few really good mom and pop coffee shops in Atlanta. They took nice areas of Atlanta with some culture and moved in with their ultra-corporate we will assimilate you crappy looking buildings and destroyed the entire landscape. For anybody familiar with Atlanta, I'm talking about Little 5. Ugh what an eyesore that Starbucks is.....

Not to mention if you get the flavored drinks and lattes and stuff, you're just packin in the calories. Not as important for some as others, but it is an issue to be aware of if you are dieting. I'm sure you're not, Rob....but somewhere out there somebody is. Bum bum bum.......

<---- I love this.....

I feel you on this one. I get a smal capuchino every morning on my way to the Career Center (trade school for everyone computers, broadcasting, welding, machine tools, etc.) I frankly dont think i would make it through waking up at 7 to be there at 8 just to burn ff some rods and waste wire on the migs...
