205/40/17, and the rim should have around a 4o offset

No, that's slightly too low. Do a +42-45.

i got a 42 offset on my car and the tires are hanging a bit on the outside.

+40 with a 205 tire will make you rub on tight turns, guaranteed.

Do at least a +42.

I hate establishing credibility, because it makes me sound conceited, (start sounding like an ass here) but I was suspension moderator and wheels/tires moderator (other forums too) at SHO for 2 years and I've been moderating suspension and ITR forums at hondavision (much better than sho) since it began. Ever heard of "Offset 101"? I wrote it. I also know of many people who have gotten +40 on that generation of civic, and have rubbed.(end sounding like an ass here)

So.....+42-45

For you, a +42 should be good. +40 or +43 should work as well, but you may get very slight rubbing on those tight turns if you lower a lot. 225 is really wide, you don't have as much room for error...

the wheels i want have an offset of +40. Can you change the offset somehow? I really don't want any rubbing on the fender.

btw... with neg camber...can't you get away with a 40mm offset without rubbing on the fender?

One thing you have to remember is that your camber changes when you corner, you can still have rubbing even with some Negative Camber. Besides that you dont want to much camber, because thats less of a tire contact patch that youll have.

how about when switching from stock wheels to aftermarket back to stock....do you always have to check the camber with each wheel? or once the camber is set, it'll stay the same?

Yes, with spacers. Only problem is...spacers only lower the offset. There's no reliable way to make offset more positive.

As to negative camber...yes it'll help you get away with it. How much camber are you planning on running?

And camber is an angle...changing the size of the wheel won't change it.

Lower how much though? When I do finally buy some rims and rework my suspension, I'm probably going with the Tein coilovers. If I don't get those as a present or don't want to blow the cash myself then I'll get Eibach Pro-kits. With the Teins the minimum drop is something like 1.5" in the rear and 1.35" in the front....I don't see myself ever lowering it more than 2" in the front since I do need good speed bump clearance around town.

I'm looking at 225/40/18, and I've even been told 19" are fine on the 6th gen, but I guess that really depends more on how much I'm lowering.

So I guess until I hear otherwise I'll plan on +42. I'll be sure to check out the thread you posted when I get some time.

I got +45 offset on my 18" konig tantrums wrapped with 205/35/18 size tires. How much do I lower it for it to look good and not rub??
