Lord of the Rings is far beyond anything Harry Potter will ever be. Lord of the Rings is actually an epic story- Harry Potter is just the product of a marketing blitz by the same genius execs that have brought us Pogs (remember those?), Pokemon, and now some spinoff of Pokemon... can't remember the name right now...

There needs to be an option for "I think they're both gayer than Nathan Lane and anyone who buys into the franchise needs to die". That'd be my vote.

I'd say neither. one is too long and boring and the other is...well it's Harry Potter. Do I really need to explain that one?

I hate LOTR with a passion myself. I can't stand the hype machine behind it. Same reason I've never seen Titanic.

Yeah, but some of them just rub me the wrong way. Titanic was one and now these. Just so much shit about them everywhere, I can't stand it.

agreed!
I don't have any ambition to see either of those movies. Because in my honest opinion, they both look like shit.

I used to have the lord of the rings cartoons back inthe day. Anyone remember those, hobbit.. etc. so I grew up liking the story. I'd have to say LoTr is a great movie. Yeah it is long, but reminds me of my childhood.

yeah me too...

I could care less about the "hype"... I block it all out... I don't really subject myself to too much of it anyway...

I like ALL of the movies though... I always liked dorky stuff like that... and I'm a big movie dork too... so I win all over with all of them...

They have great effects and both have decent story lines...

I don't judge movies or whatever on how much hype is behind it or not... I judge it on IT...

I went to see titanic cuz my gf (wife now) at the time wanted to see it... so I went I sat through it... and realized that it was the WORST movie I've ever seen... 3 hrs of the crappiest storyline EVER... I guess the effects were good but it was such a gay subject matter I couldn't have cared less about a friggen boat full of rich bastards...

The WHOLE movie was like the first 45 mins. of deer hunter... just dribble... totally worthless and boring... at least in deer hunter it FINALLY meant something once the shipped out... with titanic it was just dribble leading to more dribble.

I will probobly see LOTR 3 in the theaters cuz after seeing 1 there and not being very impressed I skipped 2 and regretted it once I saw it at home... and 3 is supposed to be WAY hairier (in terms of fight scenes, great CGI etc) I don't want to not go...

And I love the franchise and the fact that the family has been so protective of it for sooo long to make sure it got done right...

And I love the director for doing such a good job...

And I CAN'T WAIT for him to do the hobbit...

It does piss me off though when you see a commercial and you think it's gunna be scenes from the movie and it turns out to be a video game comercial or a friggen burger king commercial or something...

I'm ranting...

Please please PLEASE don't go see LOTR in the theaters. Whoever adapted the movies for screenplays changed the ending of the final movie so it doesn't match the book. No spoilers...but the end is gonna suck out loud.

The Lord of the RIngs is an epic tale told by one of the masterminds of all authors, I beleive that it far beyond exceeds what harry potter could possibly ever be. Tolkien was a genius and they did an excellent job in turning it into the most amazing journey ever taken from a book. I read all four of the books and since day one I have been OWNED

They changed the ending? Freakin' bastards. And after the family was "so protective" of it.

At least HP is getting millions of little kids to learn to love reading. Too many illiterate f**ks that are my age out there today.

And when I say illiterate, I mean more the people who won't read then the ones who can't.
