we call it soda or coke here, if you walk up and say you want a pop, you'll get a look like you're an idiot.

![]() I've never heard myself or my friends say this. We say pop. Then it narrows to brands... pepsi, mt. dew, coke, sprite, etc. Even in restaurants here, I don't here Coke as an 'all-inclusive.' ![]() |

well thats cuz you are in tulsa. tulsa isn't part of oklahoma. they just draw the maps wrong ![]() seriously though.. everyone i know calls a carbonated beverage a "coke" then narrows it down to a specific type/brand. tulsa peeps are known to be quite fruity though :o edit: restaurants are not as bad but i've seen it before. |

It's always been soda everywhere I've lived...but then again I never got into "local lingo" until I moved to PA....now only people within a 2-3 county radius understand what I'm tryin to say. Damn Pennsylvania Dutch!!!

don't they say pop in michigan too?
never understood that, we always made fun of people calling it pop. but everywhere has their own slang. I told someone here in florida that i had to pay a bill for my jacket and he looked at me strangely as if what kind of bill did i have to pay...lots of people in florida haven't heard that bill=$100, so i've cut that outta my vocab.

Generally people in the midwest and south say "pop", and usually then it's usually in smaller towns. In a bigger city people will look at you like a bumpkin if you say "pop" (and rightfully so). Pop is a word that describes a sound (an otomatopia (sp?)) or an action. It can also be short for popular. It is not, however, a drink. Soda, however, is a drink. So please, speak correctly...especially you Ohio folk...I'm not sure what goes on up there but I'd sure appreciate proper english.
