a compression to kill for

after the problems with my car i finally checked it for cylinder compression and this is what i came up with:

piston #1: 120 130 150 180 (not bad for the mileage)
piston #2: 60 120 145 160 (ouch)
piston #3: 60 120 145 165 (ouch)
piston #3: 120 160 180 180 (not that bad for mileage)

i guess the cylinder head is cracked between the piston #2 and #3, but the engine needs an overhaul soooooooooo bad or a h22.

i just checked the chilton's the haynes and mitchel manuals and they say the minimum pressure is like 135psi and the standard should be around 178. wut ? head gasket then ?

i dunno about oil butning part. i have a leak so i really don't know if it's butning or not. i redid the check at wot like i was supposed to do and i came with all the pistons at 185psi. wtf ? one of my friends mentioned that he saw blue smoke behind me while i was beating on the car. also my exhaust smells like unburnt gas, and my oil smells like gas too. i guess i'm dealing with a faulty pressure regulator, or a messed up fuel return line. and for the oil light i don't blame it for coming on with all the gas in it. i'll check the fpr tomorrow

blue means running rich, hence the smell of unburn gas. just wondering, ive never done a compression test myself, but i though you disconnected the spark plug for that cylender and clicked it over a few times without the car on. hrm... either way, a h22 will solve your problems.

yes that is how its done. that is the only method i know of checking the pressure. i dont believe there is ANY other way when you think about it.

here is how it's done:

warm up the engine
remove all the plugs, and disconect the ignition
plug the tester in the plug hole
floor the gas pedal, and turn the engine about 7 times with the starter.
