skool loans

anyone has any experience with those ? i want to get one because i'm tired of paying 6g's a year just for school. i could make the money during the school year but that will mean that i have to work too many hours a week and that will leave no time for me to study. what do u think will be a good bank that has lower rates and will offer me a deffered payement. i know you are gonna say go to the financial aid office, but somewhat the ppl there don't like me (long long story). any input is appreciated.

I don't know if this is what you want to here, but....

If you have the money to pay for school w/o a loan, do it! You'll save so much money in the long run its crazy.

i know i will save money if i would pay for school out of my own pocket but to make those money i will have to work more than full time, and if i do that i won't have any time for studying. this was supposed to be my last year, but becuase of work i just finished 1 year and a half. i just kept on flunking my classes because i did not have enough time to study. i think i lost more than 10g's already just for that matter. i have some friends that use the loans and they seem to survive with them. even their payement is not that big. it's like 50 a month. the amount on mine is not that big, maybe $15k to finish the school. i don't know, i just wanna get out of school.

Ok, first things first, go to the Fin Aid office.

Ok, seriously, they are the people to help you out if you can find someone willing to do so. Try to get yourself on a federal loan type thing, like a subsidized (I think that's the one you want). Stafford rings a bell, I think I had a Stafford unsusidized loan in school. The good thing about subsidizes is that they don't accrue interest until after you've graduated, and even then you've got a certain grace period after graduation before interest accrues. Definitely the cheapest loans you can get.

Other than that, a good way to save money could be working on campus. For instance become an RA (or whatever you call them). Usually working for the housing office you can get free housing, assuming you live on campus or want to live on campus. I paid more for housing per term than tuition when I was in school, so if I had free housing then I'd have been set. Although I got free tuition through the Hope scholarship fund.

Not to be nosey, but could you give us a shortened version of why the Fin Aid people don't like you? If you are set on getting a loan, this is the place to do it. They can set you up so you won't have to pay until you graduate, etc.

well i found it with key bank, and it's about the same terms as the federal subsidized loan provided by the finaid office. the only difference key calls it deffered payement:

http://www.key.com/templates/t-ps2.jhtml?nodeID=H-1.37#

and for finaid story: i refused to approve computer upgrades for their offices. they had already 800mhz computers with a big amount of ram, and they wanted some 1.6ghz computers to browse the net and play solitaire:o. same thing goes for carrer services. i'm also hated in english dept of the school for blowing the horn on a $40k printer in one office.

Go for a deferred loan (check the rates - some of the federally subsidized ones are very nice), but consciously save the money while you're in school. Gain interest on the money now (this is not the time for a high-risk investment), then have the resources to pay them off when you graduate.

That's great advice Mushroom. If you have to do the loans, invest some of the money you're earning now.

i already have about 2 grand saved since the begining of the summer and i expect another 2 to go into my savings account. i won't work too much during the semester, but everything that i will make will be pocket money, and the excess will be dumped into savings
