Just bought a '93 civic and this site is awesome

What's up everyone? First off, this site is really cool, the forum seems to have a lot of activity. I just bought a '93 civic lx sedan and this site's given me a million ideas of what to do to it (thanks).

A couple random questions though:

1) I live on the east coast and in 4 weeks i'll be making the 3,000 mile road trip out to cali to live for awhile, anything I should do specifically to prepare my honda?

2) My car has an eclipse head unit that the previous owner had in it and I'm thinkin it's broken or something. After about 30-45 minutes of playing a cd, it starts breaking in and out and sounding static-y (that's a word....honest). I've switched right away to the radio to figure out more of the problem, but the radio's fine. So I guess something wrong wtih the cd player? I also thought maybe it was the cd's getting too hot or something (they're cd-r's) but that wasn't it b/c I switched cds too and it was fine then. Any ideas??

Anyhow, just wanted to congratulate this site, it's really great. If anyone has some inexpensive things I should do to my car for starters (looks, not performance for now) let me know. It's red if that helps. (: Thanks a lot guys,

Brian

Brian Welcome to the club,

1) Yes.. to prepare your honda for your very long road trip you should A. rent a U-Haul truck and a trailer, and tote the civic, and B. I don't have a B I just thought it sounded cool.

Honestly dude, I would look into renting the trailer, and saving the miles on your car.

2) I have no clue whats wrong w/ your CD player. You should try this question in the audio forum... they would surley have an idea.

Happy Honda'ing

Pat,

That's exactly what I don't want to hear. You really think I should tow it out there? I checked on the price of that awhile back, I think it was gonna be $1200 or so for the smallest Uhaul truck and an attachment to tote the car. That seems a little expensive to me, what do you think about that? Is it worth it? Will a 2700 mile trek spread out across ~4 days be bad for the car? Thanks again guys,

Brian

$1200 !?!??!!??!?! That's crazy ... Dude, honestly I thought It would be a lot cheaper than that, I mean you can BUY a trailer for $1200. If it were like 400 I would say go for it, but 1200 is crazy. I know my freind rented from Uhaul a truck and a trailer, He only went from florida to Maryland, but i thought it was much more reasonable.... i didn't ask him though

Your civic can definatly Handle the drive, it's just the fact that your puttin soo many miles on the car, get it a tune up before the fact, and an oilchange, after.

How much Stuff are you haulin too ??? can it all fit in the Civic.... can it fit in the Civic safely ??

stereo could do that when it has a bad connection. Once they have been running a while they need a better connection for some reason. I had the same problem about a year ago. Check all connections to the headunit (power, memory, groud). If you have a amp running to your speakers check the amps. It could be the amp overheating and causing the speakers to break in and out (good ones have auto shut off to prevent it from frying). Good luck and welcome.

As for the trip, I'd just drive the Civic. Change the oil before and after the trip, maybe get a tuneup if you'd feel better. Other than that, what's 3000 miles going to do to a car?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I'll do what 94 Accord suggested and just change the oil before and after the trip. Thanks again,

Brian

Sounds good 4jacks. I'll make sure I get that tune up before I leave. To be honest I'm not sure what's done when you get a tune up so I guess I under estimated the importance. Thanks,

Brian
