Petition

This post is a dedicated petition for a new forum. We have disscusion goin in the mod secton for a joke forum. Now two mods see it as a good idea three mods find it to be dumb. Now if you think we deserve one then please tells us why. and if you dont keep out of this thread cause it was not made for you! It was made for those of us that think a new forum would be a good addition.



And I personally think we need a joke forum, for the fact that most of our regular OT posts are being hidden by this new wave of jokes. Now another member pointed that out to me and she knows who she is.

The jokes have been filling up the off-topic discussions....quite frankly I've just been ignoring most of the, but I've probably overlooked some more meaningful threads in the process.

I wouldn't mind a joke forum....would it hurt in any way to have one?

seems odd to have a forum devoted soley to jokes...
but yeah the jokes are really cluttering OT and ive skipped reading about 3/4 of them so i can get to the real off topic conversation. joke posts are ok in moderation but not 30 threads in 2 days... err it seems.

i vote no, and suggest keeping a bit of control when you come across a hoard of good jokes you want to post and spread them out over time.

i say yes...itz good to have a forum just based on jokes...so if anyone needs a good laugh..just click and your reading a good joke!...i'm all for it....

i sent a message to the Chief and told me that i should just post the jokes in the OT forum...and that one day there will be a joke forum...

so all the comedians out there hafta be patient..

maybe just one sticky joke thread would be more than enough... i kinda find it annoying trying to get throuh ot and see a million jokes it clutters everything else but i for sure dont think it needs its own forum.

I vote yes also! It will get jokes posted, and at times when I'm feelin gloomy, a good joke will get my spirits up! Jokes are always nice. And dont' make it only a jokes forum, but like Riddles, Jokes, and Cool Pics...something like that

Ok then out with the newbie section,out with o-t,out with the love corner,out with the reginol forums!! Ya know why they aren't honda related!! Wait they are so are jokes!! Hondas are apart of what we honda enthusiats love! And i love jokes but hate finding good web pages! Cause its near impossible to find a good joke site! And juvenile great idea jokes riddles funny pics! That forum would be great when your havin a bad day and need a good laugh!! And those of you that think its a bad idea then dont go in there! It will liberate OT from all the jokes and IF er wait WHEN you needa good laugh it will be there for you!!

Following along those lines, here's my take. This isn't just a forum dedicated to Hondas, it's an online community of people who share a common interest. We should never limit discussion just to Hondas, that's like meeting up with a friend and telling him he can only talk about one subject....that's not how you are with your friends, so it's not how we should be here.

It wouldn't be a bad idea, as proposed by some, to make one or a few sticky threads for jokes and have the jokes accumulate in those.

ok great point! But makin the stickys would suck! You would have to scroll through to show a friend that joke that made you die laughin!! I remebre back in the Q and A days there were alot of funny things said that i could never find because of all the pages!! It makes more sense to add a new forum! I know i wouldn't mind adding it to my mod list and i dont think hondaman our joke expert would either!

i like the idea of putting it on stylejudge...
newbie section is not just for introductions.

I dont find it an excuse for whoring! Just a place to get a good chuckle! I mean suer it is a honda board but there are lots of non honda things here! Honestly i think the pros are bringing in good ponts but the cons cant come up with any reason not to othe than waaa its a honda board! Well if you feel so strongly that this is a honda board get out of OT!! (not a flame just how a feel) If your gonna say somthin stick by it and dont make hypocriticl statements!

why not make it a subforum of OT...it'll be less hidden on the main page...and to those who visit OT...will see it and if they want to go there they will.

this is a honda message board. OT is a way of us Honda people to mingle on a more personal level. How many damn forms of OT are needed? NKOTB is a good way for newbies to introduce themselves - of course its not necessary. Battle of the Sexes - I dont feel it belongs on this site - it belongs on stylejudge maybe, but not on here. The regional forums dont belong? they are a great place to let people get together for shows or just to hang out - which is HondaStyle related cuz it brings members together in person.

well all the things are related and good part of the site and keep me you and others comming back! This is just more incentive for ppl to come back! Just cause a forums there doesn't men you ahve to use it! civic,accord,prelude all ther but i dont use them! but they are there if i need them! just like the relationship forum its there if i need it!

I think that the joke forum belongs. and heres a hondarelated reason to! Honda tuners all have problems with there cars! whether it be mechanical! or the fact that there car is to slow! we all get down on our cars and why not after getting some sound technical advice go laugh a lil! all on one web page! I still see no reason for not having it just cause its ther you dont have to look at it!

I think that HS needs to maintain a slightly professional appearance for any potential advertisers. IMO the relationship forum is pushing it. Why not just continue to post the jokes in OT for now? I think they will phase out anyway, and we'd be left with an empty joke forum. Nobody is stopping you from posting jokes in OT, so just do that.

the same thing happens with my car is broken forum and the step by step. if it wouldn't be for the stickies in the step by step that forum will be empty.

And juve the joke forum was proposed as a subforum for the offtopic.

There has to be some way that we all agree on to unclutter OT. I LOVE reading the jokes. One of my fav pasttimes is to laugh and to make others laugh. I'm one of the guilty parties of cluttering up OT with jokes. I don't think the jokes will work well as a sticky cuz of the fact of loosing where that really funny joke was at. I personally thought that a new forum would be good for jokes. There are a lot of threads that I don't go to on here. Some cuz they don't apply to me and the others cuz I have no clue what the people are talkin about. There are others that I will read to learn more but never post in cuz I have nothing to add to the conversation. I assume that everyone on here likes to laugh and some days really could use it. I agree with (I'm blankin on who said it right now...but it was said trust me...)_____when he said that HS needs to keep a somewhat professional tone due to advertisers and whatnot....BUT I still don't know anyone who doesn't like to laugh. Even those professional people that come here and check us out to see if they wanna sponser or advertise on here like to laugh. Some might even applaude the fact that we all enjoy a good clean joke sometimes. And I don't necessarily believe that a joke forum would totally fit on SJ either. Jokes really don't have anything to do with style anymore than it does Hondas/Acuras/and everything else on here...If this were a purely Honda page than it would only be for Hondas and that's all that would be talked about on here. And it's not. SJ as of Sat morning only has 2 General Topic threads....NKOTB and OT. If a joke forum was put in there, then why doesn't it make sense to put one on here? If you don't wanna go in and read the jokes then don't. No one is sitting at your comp with you making you check out threads you don't want to check out.

There are cons to the joke forum. As mentioned, the advertising thing. I dunno how much of a problem that really is, but if it's a problem, then it should definitely be addressed accordingly. Also database size limitations. I don't know how much space is really available, but adding new forums could easily increase database size if they get popular. This would only be relevant if the content of the new forums were something that isn't currently posted in any other forum.

About the professional thing....no offense to anybody or anything, but I wouldn't say this site is exceptionally professional. Equally I work in an environment that's supposed to be professional, but it's pretty darn laid back and a lot of stuff slides.

I believe the real question we ought to be asking ourselves with respect to the petition is this: what is the purpose of this site?

If the purpose is to develop an online community, then I don't see too many arguments against the joke forum. If the purpose is to provide an informative site mostly dedicated to Hondas that adheres to some form of professionalism, then a joke forum could easily be considered out-of-place.

So, what is the purpose of this site?

One one of the other forums I frequent, there is a Forum Survival Guide, written by one of the members quite some time ago. People who don't adhere to the guidelines subject themselves to merciless mocking by members who have been around a while and are familiar with the ropes. Posting in the wrong forum, asking questions that have been asked 20 times without doing a search first, etc. will all land you in hot water with some of the members....I guess there's really only about 5-10 of them that heckle newbies.

Anyhow, I wouldn't consider it unreasonable to establish similar guidelines here. Something that newbies can read to establish a feel for the community before they begin their postwhoring experience of a lifetime. I'm not saying establish draconian rules or anything....but it is nice when you don't see the same question asked over and over and over (I know I'm guilty of asking such questions.... ) or to have everything posted with no apparent order.

if its on SJ.........why cant people go there to look? I personally think Battle of the Sexes should be removed from the site. but back to the point in hand. As was said, this site needs to maintain more of a professional look to it. Jokes dont really seem to bring out a professional look when there is already OT. I also feel a Jokes forum would bring much more whoring of threads. This in turn WILL make people leave the site. I have seen it happen before on other msg boards. GOOD msg boards. But due to incessant whoring and things getting out of hand - they have died for the most part. Doesnt sound too enticing if you ask me. But then again, its up to someone else. Not me.

We don't need anymore forums to whore, there are enough as it is. If people want to read jokes, there are sites they can go to read them.

Ok i feel i have a right ot say this as a mod!! Whoring can be controlled by mods that do there jobs!! I:E in the joke forum if the dame joke is bein posted over and over then simply close the thread and state that this is old new! And why the hell does a forum about hondas and acuras need to be professinal lookin? I under stand we need ppl to advertise and to pay for the site, but wouldn't they be more inclined to go with us if we have more members that are active!! Look at the members list and see howmany actually post! A new forum would help to incline the fore mentioned ppl find there nitch in our little part of the net!! Im sorry we are a community for ppl that like hondas/acuras! Now what if thes e pppl *GASP* like jokes it would totally own if you could get your fix all in one spot!!

And on a different note this is the reason im thinkin about gettin out of the import thing!! PPL are so close minded! ***** this is rediculous! a new forum for jokes will have no adverse effects on the site! Honestly chris even said that if the jokes keep comin then so will a new forum! i started this to simply speed it up, so those that wanted it hada spot to voice there opinion! Thank you D and spoogenet!
And my last point for this particular post is after maybe 10 or so relationships threads we get a new forum b ut after aroun 20-30+ jokes we dont get one thats a lil messed up huh? and so what if it turns idle we would still have a spot full of jokes just in case! if we take all the jokes that have been posted in OT fffit would fill up the front page of the forum! if not more! and think of all the things that haven't been touched on! blonde jokes,lawyer jokes trust me this forum would be a great place to get a pick me up!

then again as a moderator who can supposedly control post whoring you are one of the biggest post whores HS has.... so you dont really have much to go on there, not to mention you are saying others are closed minded.. and you yourself are going off on people for giving their opinions..... its not up to you, its already been said by the owner of the site NO he doesnt want it here. point blank its not your call, let it go.

You're thinking of leaving the import scene because we don't like your joke forum idea, or because you think people are close-minded? A little extreme if you ask me.

Just because we don't agree does not mean that we are being close-minded. I thought about both sides of the issue and shared my opinion. I think you need to be more open minded and accept everyone's opinions without blowing up. If you think about it, whether a joke forum is created or not, its just a forum on an internet board... nothing to get upset over.

BTW, this isn't a flame TT, I just think that you should leave the decision up to Chief for now and shouldn't keep pushing for it.

Ok my poin on this being close minded is the fact i am yet to see a Logical reason against it! I respect everyones opinion but am yet to se a reason why we dont need a new forum! That and a few other things but thats not what this post is about. I dont wanna start a post about that cause thats my life not my internet life right there! and im not gettin worked up over somthin on a message board i jus tthink this is the stupidest thing in the world! i've seen maybe 3 reasons againist havin a new forum added and have given logical reasons against them all! I know its above all our heads! ANd if you read the orginal post which im sure you didn't this post was not for ppl against just to get a group of ppl together to get a new forum! In all honesty other then a few back and forths i dont consider my self a TRUE post whore with, almost every post i have as been constructive and added to the post! But thats not the topic of this post now is it! alli was stating is if we added a joke forum a GOOD moderator could keep the post whoring down!

If we get a joke forum, that's cool, and if not, it's not the end of the world! I personally can relate to more topics discussed in Battle of the Sexes, Off Topic Discussions and Fast and Furious Females than I can in other forums mainly because I don't know everything there is to know about cars. That's why I joined, so I can learn and to get to know people and have a good time in the process. I always look forward to reading what other people have posted. If I can't give advice to someone concerning engine problems, then I'm happy to give advice to someone who is having relationship problems, whether it helps them or not. Same goes for jokes. If I can make someone laugh with the joke I posted or vice versa, then I'm happy. So, I think a joke forum would be fun to have, but I'm not going to have a fit if it doesn't happen.
