				Ohms
I need to understand Ohms. How important are they with subs and amps. What can you run for an example if you have a amp that is 600 x 1 @ 2ohm and a 4ohm sub can your run it that way.

				 | well it depends on how watts the sub can handle on a two ohm load (rms Watts, not peak). i would run it the other way, 2 ohm sub, on a 4 ohm amp

				 | I work for a Home/Mobile entertainment company....and I don't think using a 2ohm sub on a 4ohm stable amp is a good idea...but that's just me. Using a 600x1 amp @ 2ohms with a 4ohm sub is fine just as long as the sub can handle up to 600 watts max (but you will have to increase volume a little more). Now if you use a 2ohm sub on a 4ohm amp, the sub will draw too much current and can harm the amp by overloading the transistors.... |

				 | FullSink18, ohms are values of resistance. If your amp can support a certain ohm value, then you must not show it a value lesser than this amount. Higher will work, but the power that it puts out will be reduced. In your case, if your amp is rated 600 x 1 @ 2ohm (rms??), its most probably a D class bass amp (mono). You can show it any impedance (resistance) equal or greater than 2 ohms. So if you wanted to connect a single 4 ohm sub to it, then theoretically the amp would output roughly 1/2 its rated power. About 300 wrms. If you connected a 2nd sub, again 4ohms, in parallel, which would yield a final impedance load of 2 ohms. Then your amp would be putting out its full 600 watts rms. And each sub would see 300wrms. Read this : http://www.lalena.com/audio/faq/wiring/ Everything clear?
