Oil amount
I have a 95 civic ex. d16z6 engine. Honda told me that the oil pan will hold up to 3.8 liters, but on my air intake box, it says 3.2 liters. I put right about 4 liters in Sunday when I changed oil. What is the right amount?
Also, it is leaking just a little, either from the drain plug or the filter, but I am pretty sure I tightened them down decently, since I didnt want to over tighten. Is this leaking because there is too much? its not alot, maybee 20 drops after I left it sit over night each night. Problem?? or is there one... I wiped the underneath side pretty good from where it had dripped down when I changed oil........ advice would be greatly appreciated. ![]() |

why not read the manual because it says it in there.
its not really good to add more oil than youre supposed to... did you change the oil plug ring when you changed the oil? did you tighten the filter a 1/4 turn more with a filter wrench after you hand tightened? why not jack it up, clean it off and you sit under there until oil comes out...then you'll know where it comes from. worst case you have a bad gasket...but i probably not |

I don't have a manual. I had a 97 civic and now have a 95. there is some difference since the body style changed. This car doesnt have a manual and I haven'y bought a Hayes manual yet. this is the second time i have changed the oil and yes, i tightened it down right. The leak is definately coming from either the filter or the plug though. I didnt want to get under it since it is lowered... I cant drive it on my ramps because it will break my from lip, so i have to jack it up.... just wandered if i should worry about it before I spent the afternoon under my car again.

that will be done tomorrow. I just came in from school and am about to leave for work... no time.. i'l jack it up tomorow and take a look... your car is lowered, can you drive it up on ramps or do you vave to jack it up? to get the jack under my car, i have to pull up on my fender some and then slide it under the jacking point with my foot.

i built some ramps even to squeeze the jack under there
set of 2x4's in a stepped pattern like: _--= 1 then 2 then 3 stacked...(board 1 is 3' long, 2 is 2' and 3 is 1') almost 6" high that way...then I can fit the jack in, and put stands under the points to safely be under the car...no one should EVER go under a car supported only by the jack |

yes, i might make some custom ramps, or just a ramp to attatch onto my existing ramps. i have jack stands, trust me, i wouldnt get under it without them. thatnks man.
