Holiday Raffle?

Proposed in another thread...now it has its own topic w/ poll

Should we do it or not? Money would go to one person at the end of the yr as a gift...and maybe we could find it in our hearts to give a % of the total to chief for the site's existance.

Nobody is gonna vote cause we are all self concious - i say we do it, along with a donation to Chief for letting us postwhore up in here.

Heh, I was kind of kidding around, but I'd be in for sure. We'd need to keep track of everyone who entered, and use a true random number generator to pick the winner.

Another site I'm on did this with computer hardware. They had 100 open slots on a webpage. When you send in the money, you get your name put in random spots. After the spots fill up (or a certain date), they draw a number. Someone would have to be trustworthy enough to hold the money... I'm not sure this whole thing would work here, but it would be cool to try.

First we need to decide when we want the drawing to be held. MOs take a long time to get places. I think it should be $5/ ticket, unlimited # of tickets.

Another thing we could do is to raffle off an item. Say we buy (from Stefan?) credit to an online store. The tickets could be $5/ticket, 6 tickets for $25... or something. We pay Stefan for the credit, and Chief gets the rest after the credit is payed for. Winner gets that amount of credit to buy from the store.

My biggest concern is not being able to make enough money to make this worthwhile. I'd love to have a prize (or cash) that's at least $150-$200...

Well, you know, it doesn't have to be a holiday raffle. If we start it up soon, we could let it run until we've made $xxx for Chief over the product price, or we could cut it off at a certain date. I'm always up for a little gambling and helping out Chris at the same time.

The site that did a raffle I was involved in had 100 slots open... $10/ticket or 3/$25. They gave away a $400 (I think) product. Worked well, but then again, they have higher traffic flow.

Stefan, is this something you'd be interested in helping out with (tentatively?).

If we actually collected money for it, you can be sure that there will be a drawing.

Any ideas on a part? Or should we go for store credit? I wouldn't want an intake or anything since most of us already have them. Sway bars? Brake upgrade? I dunno...

well brake upgrades are pretty expensive and i doubt that we will get so much money. i think the store credit is the best.

The cash is good to. The only thing that I was thinking is that if we bought a large enough chunk of store credit, maybe Stefan could hook us up and charge us a little less. Meaning that for, say, $185 we could get $200 of store credit (just an example of course).

Cash is good too. If anyone wants to set it up, I can get a webpage up with slots to show who has purchased tickets, etc. Can someone think of a fair way to run the drawing? IRC has a random number generator where everyone can be in the same room chatting and we can gen. a random number between 0 and x so everyone could watch. Otherwise we can just run a small random number generator program and have everyone trust us
