Ok...this small town shit is officially out of hand

I knew moving to a small town was a mistake...even for school. Today I had an early class...9am and I'd been drinking last night until around 2am (as per usual) so I was a little out of it for class. Anyways...while walking into our tech center you have to pass through two double doors...kinda like an airlock but not nearly as life-saving. As I walk up I notice this girl coming out of the first set of doors and, as she see's me, runs up and opens the door for me. Now...as some of you may or may not know, I have shorter arms than most folks but I gaurantee i can do anything you can do better...this includes opening doors. Anyhow...she swings the door open and with this kinda creepy look on her face exclaims "You don't have any arms! That is SO cool!". Now at this point I'm not sure whether to laugh hiysterically at her stupidity or smack her. I stood there for a second...hung over and a bit stunned that someone could be so dumb and just replied "Thanks...I'm glad you approve". Jesus tap dancing christ...what the hell have I gotten myself into?

Some people are just plain.....

ignorant
ignant
naive
stupid
rude
oblivious

Others are a combination of the above. I dunno what I would have done in that situation, probably what you did.....or maybe made a ruder comment back to her. "You don't have any brains, that's SO sad."

I thought it was going to be the usual "and she just kept walking such that the door slammed in my face." What is it with girls never holding the door for someone behind them? I barely ever see a guy just walk right through when someone's behind him.....not to hijack the thread or anything.

You guy's would be suprised how often shit like this happens. But no one's ever been THAT blatant and just...wow. most older people ask me if I'm a thalidymide baby even though I'm obviously not in my 30's and they outlawed that stuff in the '70s. I've gotten so used to it I usually don't even notice it so you know it takes something crazy for me to post about it.

Ohiochica...I know what you mean. I worked at a summer camp for special needs kids (autistic, CP, Downs, BD, etc.) for 2 summers in a row and I couldn't believe what people said/did when we took them on field trips. The only reason I wasn't invited back for another year was because I decked a guy that was teasing on of our autistic kids (I wasn't fired only because the kid's parents fought like hell to keep me on). I guess I shouldn't leave out that I spent a night in jail for that...no charges pressed so I'm not totally clean for that. I mean seriously...an AUTISTIC KID! I soooo hate people.

I have an autistic cousin. Though I don't seem him often (lives in another state), I think I would have reacted close to the same way that you did.

god i love that story gt..........i once pulle a chick over the counter at mcdonalds cuz she got in my one kids face and said in a most disgusted voice "oh my god! whats wrong with him!" . now mind you he is nonverbal autistic and was NOT doing any autism type thing i was sooooooo proud and then she goes and says this to him? i went balistic. i called my bf told him come get him i have something to deal with. he came took him for a ride in teh new acura sportscar at the time and i had my fun. they called teh cops and the cop that came was this kids dad. he walked in and said omg what did my hot head do now. i explained teh situation and she tried to turn it racial saying i was calling her nigger. nope i called her a fing dumb ass B----, and next time she will remember her manners. the cop then turned to her and said well miss i can press charges on both sides if you wish. she asked what she did and he says well you harrassed my child , verbally abused him and i feel you threatened his life. i never knew a black girl could turn that white! i loved it.

another lovely experience was last night, i was working hard teaching marrissa to open teh door for herself and every damn idiot had to but in and open it for us. can ya not see me shaking my head no as you reach fo rteh door. god how can i teacha kid to be independent when i have society willing to demand i baby her.

oh and my other fave comment is........."if that was my kid i would (smack, hit, discipline keep them home, ect)" my reply is "wow i feel privelaged i am glad god didnt grant you teh privalage of rasing a special needs angel. have an awesome day."

This is not really the same thing, but when I worked at a group home, I took my girls to the mall. It was pretty obvious that we were not family or anything...I had a blond skater girl, a short skinny punk girl, and a black girl with me. This girl who worked there came up and started grilling us saying, "so, are you their mom?" Now, I was 23 and these girls were 16....So I say no. She says, "Are you guys sisters?" We say No. "Cousins? Friends?" Finally we say, "ya, we're friends." But who does that? I was so pissed! Way to make them feel like weirdos!

Wow...it's amazing how ignorant some people truely are. If I would have been in that situation I'm pretty damn sure I would have stood their stunned....then snapped out of it quickly and punched her. Sure not the most respectful way of handling the situation BUT....why would she deserve my respect.

Hey now...I ALWAYS hold the door for people...including guys. But a lot of the time the guys that I try to hold the door for won't allow me to. They tell me that it's disrespectful for a male to enter the room/building before the female and end up holding the door for me instead. It's that whole chivilary (?) thing I guess. It's nice to know that there are some gentlemen still out there. Guess you're just livin in the wrong place B....girls around here hold the doors for the people behind them.

It's just one of those things you're taught from a young age. I've always held doors for women, opened car doors, pulled out chairs, and stood up when a woman leaves the table. I can't really say why I do it...it's almost automatic.

I think most people who have common sense hold doors for people.
And that was a ****ed up comment btw. Oh and I get all the other stuff you said GT40, but standing up when a female leaves the table? huh?

Yeah...that's one you don't see much these days. You usually see it in older movies. That one got lost somewhere between the '50s and the '70s. You don't actually stand up...you kind of half stand. I'm not really even sure what the point of it is, but it's the gentlemanly thing to do. Goes over well with the ladies, too.

Ok...I'd like more details on this...hehe. What exactly do you do? Any time a chic stands up or when she's finally leaving the table for the last time? And you what, just half stand up looking at her? Or just do that while still bringing up the fork with noodles to your mouth? haha. Like, what do you exactly do? I'm a lost case

No...you don't continue eating. Lol. I tell you what...instead of me giving feeble explanations, go rent some old Cary Grant or Spencer Tracy movies and you'll see what I mean. In short, yes, any time a female leaves the table you slightly raise yourself but don't stand all the way up. It's hard to explain unless you see it.

Well...when I said drinking...I meant beer...not rubbing alcohol. And I don't think a 6 pack qualifies me for dilusional status. Trust me...I was pretty lucid.

I must have misunderstood when you said "out of it".... My point is that once at work some overweight lady comes in and I said, "WOW! YOUR BACK!!!" she understood, "WOW YOUR FAT!!!"
