Got shafted at the dealer

Finally found a car I was going to get. 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST, Silver, Cloth Interior(not a fan of leather), 30k miles. This is long so you may wanna grab some popcorn and a soda.

I ventured out to the dealer on my lunch break(about 20 minutes from my work). Checked it out. Needed a new battery & new door handle which the dealer was going to get done prior. Told the sales guy that I have all my loan paperwork done & ready, but I'd like to test drive it first.

So I came back about 2:00(same day) because my boss wanted to see the new EVO they had. Mighty gorgeous, but that's a different topic. So I had the sales guy jump it for me and off we went driving around. It drove like it only had 30k on it. Everything sounded great. So I told him that I'd be back after work to get the "numbers" together.

I had some things to take care of, so I called him about 5:30 and told him I'd be there @ 7:30 with the paperwork. Well I arrived at 7:30 walked in & was greeted by sales guy with "I have some bad news". "Those 2 people there are trying to buy this car". I looked at him like he was a f*cking idiot. I was there with the papers to buy the car. LOAN IN HAND. And they decided to sell it out from under me???

Well the people are bringing a cashier's check today. The dealer could have had his money yesterday if I had bought it. The 2 people haven't even looked at the car or drove it. They were buying it for there son.

Sorry for the rant, but I had to vent. I'm calling the dealer at 9 and talkig with the Sales Mgr. This was some serious BS.

Damn... that really sucks. Mind me asking how much they wanted for it?

Something like that happened on another forum I am on. The guy found the car he had been wanting in the colors that he wanted (pretty rare color combo I guess). Anyway, he did the all the paperwork and got the loan and everything. He came back the next day, and was told "Sorry, we sent the car to the auction" even though he had already paid for it!

$15,900

Yeah I'm pretty mad. These cars are hard to find around here. Especially in manual.

That exact thing happened to me when I was looking for my first car. It was a 95 Civic 2-door with rims, sunroof, cd, great interior, etc. We went and looked at it and test drove it, then told the guy we'd get everything together and buy it the next day. He was happy about that and eager to see us the next day. Anyway we go back and some OTHER salesman sold that car before we got back. All our sales guy could say was sorry and that he should have "let the others know it was sold." F$%cker.

Well I talked to the sales mgr.

He basically said its a first come, first serve basis. And that he's had alot of people say they are coming back and not show up. So I kinda understand where he's coming from.

On another note, they have a red 98 GST convertible in. So I may go look at that. Even though I'm not sure about red.

Yeah but it sounds like you showed pretty good faith to the salesman that you're serious about buying the car.....I understand the basis of where the dealers come from, but they need to judge the situation. That's just bad business.

If it were me, I'd never go back to that dealer again and I'd make it very clear to them that I'm not returning.

I had a job for a sales company a while back - check this out.

We were told that the following things mean NO!

"ill be back tomorow" "let me talk to my wife" "can i buy it next week?" "can you give me a call after payday?"

I will be honest, i felt like a real ass being a sales person, like i was using words like "investment" instead of "payment" to manipulate people.

That really sucks. IMO he should have contacted you and let you know that someone was interested; basically given you first right of refusal.

Yes you can. I walked out paying Blue Book including a 2 year warranty & the dealer will make payments on the Eclipse for 2 months.

I didn't trade in the Si. I'm going to sell it outright. So, the dealer is basically covering me for 2 months while I do that.

I'll be picking the car up sometime next week. I'd guess towards the middle or so.

The blond wig worked! How do you think I got this deal??
