lowering cars?

how exactly do you do this?

by lowering the whole car with a tool?

by buying special springs?

and how much does it cost(average) to lower a car?

and should it be lowered to about 2 inches?

Ummm.....Springs, or you can get a spring/ shock system which is better for performance. If you get the shock/spring system, then you can usually lower the car with a tool by jsut taking off the wheel, adn cranking it around. you can lwoer how ever much you want, until the limit on your coilovers.

coilovers can be from 200-2000 dollars....and springs can be from 80-500 prolly (guessing on that price)

new lowering springs
cutting stock springs (bad bad bad)
some shocks allow lowering (koni yellow) by using a different location for the spring perch
Coilovers (spring perch level is changed)
Airbags/cyliders
probably more...but im tired

And dont chince out on suspension...trust me. Get good stuff the 1st time so you dont have to get another set later and be pissed about it (spend around $1000 for shocks and springs...more if youre getting coilovers...and dont get illumina r's from tokico (bad experience with those...)

You can also heat the springs which will compress them, but also make your car more "bouncy" and you'll also have more body roll.

You can pick up a set of springs for $125 ~ $150 and your car will lower anywhere from 1" to 3".

Dont cut or Heat springs.. This is not a good idea, and it can be very dangerous. Chances are your car will handle like crap, sit uneven, and could very well cause an accident.

Save your money and do it right the first time. Atleast buy springs and new shocks. You could use your stock shocks for a while aslong as you dont go to low. When looking for replacement shocks for lowering springs, try to get a shock with a shorter shock body. This will help keep your shock from bottoming out which will cause premature death to the shock. Usually if they are cheaper shocks, they are probably just OEM replacements. Tokico blues, most KYB, etc. You really do get what you pay for when you buy suspension.

When replacing suspension Airtools will make your life alot easier. It can be done with normal wrenches and rachets, it just takes longer, and can sometimes be a lot more of a PITA to get bolts loose with. A torque wrench is always a good thing to use too. When you reinstall your bolts some anti-sieze is always a great idea also. Theres nothing worse then braking off suspension bolts. Once you have all your suspension back in, take it to a shop and get it aligned. You may need a camber kit as well. They will tell you if you do.

Yep, Cutting, heating, or compressing springs are very bad ideas. Take it from me, I went the cheep route a while ago, and I am paying for it now.

It is best to spend the money; lowering springs, good struts, camber kit, and Get an alignment.

It makes no sense to drop a car for looks, if it handles like crap.
You will save money in the long run on tires and future alignments.

I need a set od good struts for my 95 civic. I was gonna get the tokico blues until I heard a million horror stories, then i decided on the kyb agx, but then same stories. What are some good stuts. I plan on lowering my car about 2.5-3 inches. All my choices have gone down the hole. I guess it wouldn't hurt to get some from a company that has lifetime warranties. HELP!!!!!

When I was trying to break in my new sport springs, I rode around with four 50lb bags of rice. No joke Driving over speed bumps and going down bumpy roads to try to get them to compress sooner

Lots of people around here heat their springs. I know very few people who actually bother to do their suspension correctly...

I have Weapon-R adjustable coilovers, but I didn't get aftermarket struts and I think I should have(?) because mine keep blowin out now due to additional stress on them.....

Id definately go with Koni Sport (yellows) again! I love these shocks, Ive had them for over 3 years and about 50K miles and they are still holding strong. If your gonna lower your car that much I wouldnt even consider anything else.

You can get Konis for less then $500 a set. Give the guys at www.shox.com a call, they usually have good prices and equal service.

Edit: Whoa, they raised their prices. At one point they were at about $475 for a set. Check around, you maybe able to find them cheaper. If I were you, Id save a little extra money and go with these.. 125. Koni coil over kit 1992 - 2000 Threaded coil over kit. Koni has free shipping. 973.00
