Turboing accord
What does it take to turbo a Slow A$$ Accord ? I know i'l have to change seals and some internals. What kind oif boost shall i run in order to prevent engine damage ? What gains will i expect from it ?

I don't know a lot about turboing the F22, but I've heard it will take about 7-8 psi stock

so what gains from 7-8 psi stock. what gains ? I think the gaskets and seals are the biggest problem, and replacing them with copper gaskets will allow me for some more. i'm new to this so i really need some help.

Yeah I would check all your seals to make sure everythings good. If you replace the head gasket, Id get a little thicker one to drop compression so you can run a little more boost. You will also want to Make sure you have plenty of fuel and spark so you arent detenating. And Dyno Tuning is always a plus. It will give you an even more reliable motor, and bring out some extra lost power at the same time.: ![]() Turbo Accords --> Maybe this link might have some info for you.

from how stuff works i got that a turbo that runs 7-9 psi will ad like 50% to the power the engine currently makes, but that is under ideal conditions, but for real it will be somewhere in the 40% range. So running 8 psi will make my engine a 160 hp monster :

But dont forget this will also leave you with room to grow if you ever decide to build the internals. Thats when you can start turning up the boost. ![]()

if you're gonna stick with mild boost.. then I guess its ok to stick with the f22..
Otherwise I highly recommend a swap. h22/h23

For turbo, I'd get the lower compression H23. With 160 ponies to start with (at the flywheel), you have a good starting point.

thats true.. but if you are willing to fully rebuild internals then its not much of a concern.. Besides if you are able to run without disengaging vtec, it'll run like a dream.

I think an engine swap is the best choice but if i was you i would just get a turbo. It has so many cool things that comes with having a turbo. For instance nothing beats that blow off Whooshin. And the sound of your turbo spooling is dope too. So get the turbo and you'll not regret it. I mean my turbo made my slow ass SOHC CIVIC a contender on the streets. No check that i mean a car to fear!. = ) But whatever you do good luck. |

the engine has like 121k clicks on it. at leat the last 30 3k miles were driven hard, maybe too hard. This summer it was in great shape when i took it apart.

heres how to tell power...say 1psi = 10hp 7-8psi is you guessed it folks 70-80hp. if you couldnt figure that one out then you need to study HARDER...=)

Don't worry about the mileage. Its all good. Just go get a compression check and see how your engine is. I Mean i have a blown headgasket and i still drvie hard. SO if i were you just turbo your ride.

another thing you have to take into consideration is compression vs. boost. boost basically raises the compression of the engine. a 10.5:1 compression engine will make more hp with 8lbs of boost compared to an 8.5:1 engine boosting 10lbs.
for ex. i have two friends, one with an itr turbo, 7lbs boost, and another with a gsr turbo, 10lbs of boost. both dynoed their cars and got almost identical charts.....240whp-type-r.....243whp-gsr. |

but in stock trim the itr has about 20 more horsepower than the gsr. It makes sense.

but when your talking about boost, stock figures almost gets ruled out.....displacement plays the key role....and since itr's and gsr's have the same displacement....the output will be almost identical....... |

another thing boost just raises your compression Ie if you took exactally half of atmospheric pressure ( 14.7psi) it would be 7.35psi and if your stock compression is 10:1 it would be 15:1 after 7.35psi boost i hope you guys are getting what im saying
