Engine Swap Prices...wha??

How is it that some places are able to offer a cheaper price on a b18 than a b16?http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/long_blocks/index.html
Are the b16s getting rare or what? crap, for that price I'll just go b18 and get more power.

And I know this has been asked before, but I want to know two things:

1. Who here has done a swap and what kind.
2. Who did you deal with ? (site name)

I just want to know who is reputable. Don't just give me a big list of every engine importer on the net. I already got that from google.

Those prices are average. The thing is, you need tranmission, ECM, Axels, header, clutch, engine mounts. Price for a whole swap is considerably more. I've done about 10 swaps. I have a B18C1 I just finished rebuilding with JE rings, blockguard and cometic HP head gasket. I'll be selling it soon if you are interested. PhilanthropistJW is my yahoo and AIM names.

that company imports in quantity and stocks motors in north america(not sure if its USA or canada) they can offer the lower prices because they goto their own private stock pile for engines, not grab one in a junk yard in japan, ship it over and then ship it to you, thats how the prices go up. they invested in a large inventory in order to offer lower prices, alot of places ship individual engines from japan to you. shipping on one engine can cost around 6-700 from japan or even more, where shipping on a 40 ft crate full of lets say 200 engines is maybe $5000 but break that down, and you'll see how they can offer much cheaper prices and not loose on their end

oh and to answer why prices are higher, cause they are more rare, and people will pay more for a b16 for some reason. look at the h22 prices, they are low. remember, those prices do not include shipping

A ZC swap to my car wouldnt need much. its a direct bolt in, with the trans and ecu compatible. need new header, but most of the other things would make my total swap prices about 1500...I may just go with a b16 for its prices.

and Dr Drew, who did you use to buy your engines? (if its a site)

Local junk yards mainly, the one I have now needed a rebuild so I got it for doing labor on a car. I'm currently breaking it in. A ZC swap is easy into your car. You're car is multiport injected already so there isn't any wiring issues to deal with, so the only things you would need would be an integra clutch and pressure plate and an alternator/bracket from an Integra because the offset to the crank pulley is differant. It isn't a bad swap for the cost. Although, you wanna makes sure you get a good motor. The one that a customer got that we swapped only compression tested 75 in one cylinder, I dont know what the specs are for this motor but it is WAY more than that. However, after running it for a little bit it ran nicely.
