high mileage reliability?
this really isnt a civic question but i found an integra gs-r for a good price. the motor has 307000 miles on it though. if i rebuild the valve train with all jun products and then replace all the pistons, rings, connecting rods, and sleeve it, will it be a reliable racing engine. i have quite a bit of experience but not with a motor that high mileage. i think it would be fine with all new products but what do you guys think????

Re: high mileage reliability?
The problem will NOT be the engine. Engines actually get better as they age. Without boring you, it has to do with the thermal cycling of the metal as it gets hot and cold and hot again. It makes the metal stronger.
The problem is going to be the running gear, like the transaxle and suspension parts. These things fatigue with age. They flex, crack and fall apart as they get older.

I have to agree with BDC- the parts you mentioned on the engine will probably need replaced but where you're going to notice it is going to be with everything else in the car.. Unless things were constantly replaced it will deteriorate pretty quickly I'd say

What the hell did the owner do to put over 300K miles on the Integra? Shit, I have a '97 Civic with a little over 53K on the odometer, and I thought that was bad enough. I'm already trying to keep miles off my car.

Adding... And you probably would be ahead of yourself to replace all of the seals and gaskets while the motor is apart.. ![]()
