Supra Engine Question

Ive decided- as soon as I turn 18 the Highlander is gone and Im getting a Supra... its gonna be non-turbo when I buy it and prob have 50k+ miles on it... I plan on twin turboing it with the best of the best aftermarket turbos, along with all the electronic goodies... Ive heard that the Supra Engines can hold 1000+ HP on stock internals... my question is: Are the NA Supra engines and the TT Supra engines identical (excluding the turbos, of course)... if so thatd be sweet... and yes, I prob will upgrade internals anyways, as a Supra engine failure would suck... gimme some ideas people

the non turbo comes with a 2jz-ge engine. and the turbo has the 2jz-gte. they are the same block, but thats about it. everything else is different. your better off finding a turbo one cause to do a engine swap or a twin turbo kit your looking 5-6000+ for the kit or swap. its better to get a low mile 6 spd supra thats already all geared right and work from there. in the long run it will not only be more reliable, but faster and cheaper. if you want short term thrills, and something fast, buy a crx and a hatch and a h22. find a shop that can put it in, and be fast. supras arnt cheap.

I know supras arent cheap but I figure I can get at least 22.5k for my highlander and I have 10k cash and a job this summer that will probably net me somewhere around 4k (after spending money)... so yeah I figure I have at least 35k to do something with... thanks for the info, I will investigate more

well, if you have 35k, then find a nice low mile one for 20k and you can make it VERY nice for 15k, or just fast as hell for about 5-7k and use the rest on insurance.

Uhh its a little hard finding a low-mile TT supra for 20k... oh wait no my bad its IMPOSSIBLE... the low-mile supras Ive seen for sale are 30k+... those are stock and well-kept... thinking Im gonna get one for 28k next year (less cause of depreciation) and use like 5k for some upgrades then the left over 2k to pay for difference in insurance... it will be fun... gonna be college bound with a TT Supra ...

Watch out for vandals, door dings, and all of that crap. I know I wouldn't drive a nice Supra to campus, it just isn't worth it.

The Supras to get are the 93-94 model years. The electronics are far more addaptable for aftermarket performance. The newer you go the more hurdles to jump. Buy an older one with high miles.

That's an idea too.....buy a 20K supra tt with 100K+ miles on it and just swap in a newer low mileage engine. You'd still be spending less than 28K i believe and that way you'd be set...or is there something wrong with that idea???

Well for one thing the tranny will be getting old at 100k+miles, and the turbos will be all but fried unless taken great care of

OR you could aways buy a sc300, like a 92-94 for 12-14k, and swap a 2jz-gte in. they come with 2jz-ge, same as the na supras. then you have a fast ass lexus. i love the way the sc300s look. its just an idea.......

Good point.. I wouldnt mind having one.. Im going to agree with everyone else.. Dont waste the money on a NA Supra if your just going to Turbo it. Spend the time to look around. You can find some super nice TT Supras for low $20K if your patient and spend some time looking, especially if you dont mind driving some distance to pick one up.
