Greddy Turbo Questions

I did some searching around on the site and didn't find some answers to some questions I had.

If a turbo has an internal waste gate, you can't add one to it can you?

I was just pondering this since I was looking into the Greddy Turbo for my Si and it uses an internal wastegate.

How any PSI can I boost with that system? I though I saw the turbo was rated up to 200+hp. Not sure it was a while ago. I know its an 18G turbo....

with the internal waste gate there is no point to add a external one. basically the internal is really only adjustable with a boost control and are good for smaller amounts of boost while external can handle higher boost better and are adjustable, by changing springs and so on.

waz up civic addict?
...well, it is possible to adjust the internal wastegate also without utilizing a boost control device. there is a control arm that opens the wastegate that can be turned clockwise or counter clockwise. the problem is, you'll never know how much psi you'll end up until you look at the gauge. any wastegate, internal or external can be controlled be a boost control device ie. EVC or MBC.

if what youre asking is, can u add an external wastegate to a turbo set that uses an internal wastegate already, this is my answer:
u can add an external wastegate to a turbo set that is accompanied by an internal wastegate. it will need some modifications tho. it will NOT be worth it to convert....IMO. what's going to happen is that, the internal wastegate will have to be DIABLED to properly control the boost setting.

if u were looking at a kit, it will be pre-set to a factory boost of between 6-8 psi. that is very safe to turbo your Si. a T-25 or TD05-h 18G is capable of pushing close to 18-20 psi boost.

1 psi is equal to 10 plus/minus 2 horsepower.......

hope that helps

Thanks....

I was asking about the wastegate because I was told that external is better than the internal. So I just wondered if you could upgrade it. No big deal.

18 PSI...... Mmmmmm.......
