What to look for

Wednesday I'm gonna go look at a 1992 Civic hatch DX 1.5L 5spd.

Just wondering what are some key things to check out on this car, that would show signs of wear, or show that it hasnt been taken care of.

Thanks yet again fellas
Joe

u need to watch out for rust on the the front fender where it meets the front bumper and on the rear quarter panel on the fenderwells those are good spot for rust on the those cars.... other then that i don't think there's anything to worry about other than like very noticable stuff..... good luck with it

The rear wheel wells will definetaly be rusted for sure. When driving the car make sure the radio is off so you can hear any sqeeks and rattles, as well pay attention to clutch slippage, unless it's been changed already. Also dpending on miles try and see if the owner has the service records and ask when the timing belt and water pump were chnged. Good luck

check the oil... and smell it...

Ideally you'd want to pull the V/C off to check out the condition of the top end...

Other than that... you just want to pay as much attention as possible when test driving it...

Make it do some work too... don't baby the thing.... you'll never get an idea of what condition it's in with out pushing it a little...

Run your hand up under the rear wheel well and feel for rusting out, sometimes you can't tell jut by looking. Look for body panel alignment especially in hte rear, as the unibody is hard to fix right, and it's a sure sign it was in a wreck, also knock on the rear half listening for a dull sound, that would be bondo. Lift up the spare tires, and look for dirt, water, debris, a good sihn that the seals are giong out. alos under the front carpet you should be able to stick you hand down under it from in front of hte pedals, check for the same thing. Civics have a tendency to leak after a few years, and can develop trouble spots you can't see.
