My Civic
Alrighty...as you all know I am here in the middle of the desert. Since I've been here I've been getting paid phat cash...and I have been buying parts online...so far...I've bought:
-Koni Yellows -BOV type S -lowering springs from Eibach -short shifter kit from B&M -turbo timer -turbo map sensor -vortech fmu 12:1 So fa, I think that's it. So when I get home...Im gonna have some fun hookin my car up...Im thinkin about getting gas struts and a camber kit... What do you guys think? |

It's a good start...but a few of those things will be worthless without a turbo kit (hint hint).

sounds good to me. B&M isnt that bad of a short shifter. you should finish buying your suspension parts. lower that bitch and get a ingalls chamber kit.

Ok. My idea was to go turbo...I was lookin at some turbo kits and all I've seen was Greddy and Edlebrock...
As for the struts...I was gonna do front and back of my car...and I don't need to save money because Im finacially well off...I can buy the kit right now...it's just that I wanna be careful as to getting the right one. Suspension...I would just need the camber kit and the struts...then I think my suspension will be ok... |

edelbrock hands down for the turbo. as for the struts i think your car has 4 shocks, and koni yellows that you ordered are supposed to take care of that part of the suspension.

I wouldn't buy an air filter from Edelbrock, much less a turbo kit. Those guys are the absolute pinnacle of mediocrity. The usually wait until the market for a given product has been around for awhile and then release a sub-par product at a premium price because for some reason people will buy on their name alone. Do what Chris suggested, go custom.

It's piecing a system together yourself other than buying a kit. It's a bit more time consuming and you'll need to read up to figure out what the best combo for your car/performance needs, but it's far and away a better choice than a kit. I put my kit together and it was cheaper than mail-order kits and from what I've heard from people with similar setups not making as much power. You can hit up your local speed shop (whoever you had planned to do the install) and ask them what they would do if they were in your situation.

whoah.... custom is not a great thing to do for your first turbo project unless you have a clear understanding on how everything ties up. You have to take into consideration CFM, compressor map calculation, blah blah..... and work it with your HP goal. If you have the patience and time, then do it. You also have to spend a plenty of hours on routing and designing the piping and whatnot.
If you just want streetability and whoop a GSR/Si Intake-header- exhaust set-up, get the GReddy kit. You will not be disappointed. It will be a fun car at the very least. I'm not saying that you cant do custom, Adrieanne. I'm not doubting your skills neither, but I know that military occupies a lot of our time. I also know that you cant have too much downtime on your car. I've done about 7 custom turbo set-up on Hondas, each and every time, I still stumble into issues during the project. If you have another car to drive around, time to spend, place to do the work, and most importantly-patience to deal with issues, then I say do a custom turbo project. Just my 2 psi............................................... ... P.S. You already have Gas shocks......... those are your Konis |

Well...I don't have another car to drive around with and yes...I do shift work so it is even hard to get to the gym and school sometimes let alone try to fix up my car. I think I should stick to the turbo kit. I think I need to learn just a bit more about under the hood before I go custom.

Hmmmm...well if you're not ready to go the custom route then you probably aren't going to install the kit yourself. Installing a good turbo kit will typically take at LEAST 8-10 hours. So I'd count on your car being down for 2 days or so even if you have a shop do it. I still like the custom idea. My turbo kit was my first. I just made a ton of phone calls and asked a lot of people for advice before I started buying. It was so cheap that I can't justify recommending a kit to anyone.
