this ever happen to you?

I wasin shop today, and we were redoing the front springs for a mercury sable for a customer and we were compressing the new spring on the old strut on out compressor so it could go through the strut mount, then all of the sudden the key (the lil thing that goes between the pinch bolt) gave out and the strut and spring are fully compressed. our teacher was telling us how dangerous it is and had a friend who had his whole face ripped off by the same thing. and then the spring and strut go flying down so fast and hit me and kevin (a friend in my shop) steel toe, it bent his down to his toes pinched them down in there and put a huge dent in the front of mine, and put a nice dent in 4 inches of concrete. it was so scary and happened so fast. it sounded like a a stick of dynamite going off right next to me. our teacher came running over and making sure everyone was alright... and everyone was, but it one of the mosty scary things ever.

I was cutting a piece of plastic once with a table saw. I had a wood blade on the saw becuase I was in a rush and didn't have the time to put on a plastic cutting blade. About 1/3 way through the cut the plastic got caught on one of the teeth and shot out t me. the peice shot into my forarm, went in about an inch, at a very shallow angle, and I still have a scar to this day.

Listen to your shop teachers.... they know cause they've seen it happen to other idiots who didn't listen.

Exactly. When I was in high school this one guy got a little part of his finger cut off doing only god knows what in a shop class. He of course had to go to the emergency room....along with the guy who had the rest of his finger.

That sucks that happened to you B16, it's good nobody was seriously injured.

Actually, that very thing happened to me once. I was helping a mechanic friend of mine change springs for a customer (he worked at a dealership but did a lot of stuff out of his garage). Anyway...the cheap ass spring compressor we rented gave out, the spring hit the ground hard enough to leave a huge dent in the driveway, and flew into his neighbor's yard...across the damn street. I'm never doing a spring job again.

I'm one of those people who cant stand suspension work.....changining out struts/shocks/springs. I always seem to snap one of the bottom strut/shock bolt..... I've done about a dozen of drops with only 2 being hassleless......

This is true...I prefer jack stands though...they're stationary.
