Thats the stock rating on ex's? What is the formula for figureing it out? Isnt it 15% of your rating is at the wheels?

the geekz0r (11:03:46 PM): basicly, look at it this way...the 6speed is the same is the 5speed in 2,3,4,5,and 6...only the speeds are different because of the fd
the geekz0r (11:04:16 PM): so 2nd pulls like 1st in the 5speed, 3rd is like 2nd, etc.
PortugeeTex (11:04:26 PM): so whats 1st like then?
the geekz0r (11:04:49 PM): 1st is like hitting a cheeta in the ass with a tazer
PortugeeTex (11:04:53 PM): lmfao

well.. its roughly 15% for manual and 20-25% for automatic.. and thats the amount of power lost through the drive train. however its not a exact formula or in any way accurate. its a guess for people who like playing the HP # game and thats about it. if you want to know for sure... you have to dyno. there are too many factors that you wouldnt think of that will change your whp#

i'd say that paint alone gives you about an extra 50 hp...

That's a really general statement. It all depends on the efficiency of your drivetrain. For instance, if a 20% drop between engine and wheels was the case in my car, my engine would've blown up long ago. I dyno'ed at 657hp at the wheels. If I was losing 20% through the transmission (an automatic) I'd be making 788hp at the flywheel (657 x 0.2). This is certainly not the case. So it's hard to tell with a chassis dyno what the engine's making...those are just estimates and for a basically stock car they're not too bad...just don't use them as a rule.

You can have anywhere from 15-35% power loss through the wheels. Like he said.. considering, weight of the flywheel, clutch setup, or tq converter if auto (autos will lose more power), type driveshaft if you have one, and even the rearend. While a 9" ford is stronger, the 12 bolt allows more power to the wheels. If you want to be realistic, figure about 25% loss to the wheels on your honda.

Someone failed math.

657 x 0.2 = 131.4

Based upon your math....the drivetrain is making lots of hp! :o

But yeah, your point is correct. It's difficult to use a dyno result to get flywheel power, or flywheel power to get wheel power.

All that really matters on the road is what's at the wheels anyways, so I'd just stick with measuring that. And what matters more is the power and torque under the curve, not the peak. Specs from the mfgr are all peak, it's really quite useless data if you don't know what the power and torque curves look like.

And someone failed to finish the equation. 657 x 0.2 = 131.4 then 131.4 + 657 = 788.4. Man I hate when people need things spelled out.
