I got sick of campus food too...I ate a lot of ramen and easy mac
(dry ramen w/ peanut butter makes for a decent giant cracker) When I did eat at the food...whatever downstairs I just ate a lot of chicken patties, burgers, and hot dogs. Those were the only things that didnt have laxatives added to them. Yes thats right...laxatives. They were added to the food just incase the food wasnt cooked long enough and it contained bacteria...quickly out that way... I ordered out when I could, but that wasnt often. Good Luck man |

Ramen noodles rock man. I'm not in college, but man ramen noodles are the junk. I also recommend this package of Alfredo noodle stuff from Lipton. Good stuff.
Right now, I'm about to eat hickory smoked, boneless skinless chicken, baked potato, baked beans, and some cornbread. Really good stuff.

wtf is ramen? And I guess I should've added to you guys that i am living on my own in a room. Which means I feed myself. So i can either cook meals or go out for food. And i can't afford to eat out at all so i get groceries and make my own meals. That is what i mean.

WTF IS RAMEN?! WTF IS....man...deprived indeed
![]() true jdm ![]() its just noodles that have flavorings. I really suggest that you go get some. Theyre like $0.25 a package so its super cheap and a decent meal/dinner for under $1. Add meat or vegies for more soup like things. |

I say chicken (the regular kind) is my favorite. I cook it until there is almost no water left, and then I pour the rest of it out. I eat it dry, I guess you could say. That way it is very flavored (ie chicken and salt)
I think I'll make another pack... Oh, and Ive found that store brand ramen is even cheaper (of course) but tends to be just as good. Ive bought a whole case of it before...like...30 packages (tops). |

Ramen noodles are good. Pasta Anytime is a little more expensive, but nice when you need a break from ramen. You can usually find them on sale for around $1.50 each.

Cereal! You can't go wrong....it's the easiest meal to make, doesn't cost a whole lot and if you get tired of one kind, you have plenty to pick from.

Damn, Paul beat me to it. I'm pretty positive Maruchan is Chinese.
I believe Sapporo makes some Ichiban noodles, which are JDM. Those things are horrible....one pack has like 70-90% of your sodium intake for a day, not to mention they are barely nutritious at all. Since you can cook in your own room, that opens up the possibilities immensely. Get a rice cooker. They're so frickin easy and rice is pretty cheap. I like Nishiki, but it's a little more expensive, more of a sushi rice. I think it tastes good plain, but you can easily and cheaply make lots of rice dishes. Things like rice pilaf and curried rice are real easy and very tasty. If you need recipes I can hook you up. You can easily bake chicken, broil it, pan fry it, or get a foreman grill or something. It's not too expensive, but you can cut back on the money by only eating half a breast or so, turn it into a 2 meal kinda thing....then just eat more rice or pasta or salad or something else. Salads....that's another way to go. Not too pricey and healthier than most other things. Ken's Lite Caesar dressing is the bomb, it's real strong so you don't need much. Some romaine, grape tomatoes or slice up a roma, some sliced english cucumber, freshly ground black pepper and some of the dressing makes a good salad. Skip the cheese, it's too expensive. ![]() Pasta. You can get cheap ass pasta real easy. 1 box (1 lb.) should be good for 2-4 meals depending on how much you eat. You can get some pretty good prepared sauces for a reasonable price. A bottle of sauce is usually good for a 1 lb. box or so. Buy fresh onions and mushrooms and sautee them and dump them in, skip the meat to save money. The more raw ingredients you use, chances are the cheaper you can make it. The processed foods can get expensive real quick, and most of them are pretty bad for you anyways..... Cheap breakfast, you can do cereal or buy some eggs, cook an egg or two and do a little toast with some honey. Bread, eggs, and honey are all cheap and it takes like 5 minutes total time and you're ready to eat. b |

Not only is this thread benefiting you Kyle, but myself as well! I don't cook (unless the microwave counts, hehe) and I'm horrible at it when I do attempt too!

Well that depends on how you want your chicken cooked.... Here's a couple real simple ones: Fajita Chicken....or what I do for fajitas. Start warming Foreman grill. Rinse off the chicken breasts and then pat them dry on a paper towel or something (not one that leaves little paper lint). Put them on a plate or something and douse them with some lemon juice. Plop them on the foreman grill and cook them until done and they have crispy dark brown spots on top/bottom where in contact with the grill. I think it doesn't taste very great until these crispy parts develop but I like it a lot when it gets crispy on top/bottom.....but your tastes may vary. One thing that can help it get crispy is to put some pressure on the top of the grill when the chicken is almost done to force more contact of the hot grill with the chicken. Remove chicken and shred with 2 forks or just slice it up. I sautee some onions and red bell peppers with some honey and a small amount of oil in a pan, serve with soft flour tortilla, hot picante or Tabasco Chipotle sauce, sour cream, and cheese. Chicken Monterey: Start warming foreman grill. Rinse off chicken and pat dry...sound familiar? Douse chicken with a good Italian salad dressing. Cook on grill till done (don't need the crispy spots, just make sure it's done). When done place Monterey Jack cheese on them and melt it, maybe use heat from foreman grill to help you melt it. Can be served as-is or is great with some hot salsa or picante sauce. Great served with rice pilaf and sweet corn. Frozen sweet corn is cheap and super easy to cook in microwave, takes about 10 minutes and no work. ![]() And in case you run into any trouble with cleaning the foreman grill (I don't use oils unless it's in a dressing or sauce or something, so things stick more)....right after you take things off and it's unplugged but still very hot, put a little water on it. I have a squirt bottle and just kinda squirt a little on there, then you can wipe it off with a paper towel (be sure not to burn yourself!!!). It's pretty simple. One thing on chicken marinades.....chicken is very dense, it doesn't absorb marinades like beef does. Some people say to make sure you marinade chicken overnight....I don't bother, I just dump stuff on it and cook it immediately. But it doesn't absorb lots of flavor like that. You can get a jackardizer or something to pierce the meat to help it absorb the marinade, or you can do it the cheap way and just poke it some with a fork. ![]() Edit: Since you haven't cooked chicken, you probably don't know when it's done. It should take anywhere from 3-7 minutes on a Foreman Grill depending on how hot yours is, how cold your chicken is before going on, how well it contacts the grill, etc. When it's done it should be pretty firm when tapped with something like the flat part of a fork or knife or something. Raw chicken is pretty jiggly and soft, cooked chicken is very firm. Since my guess is you're not trying to impress anybody with your cooking, don't be afraid to take the chicken off and cut into it to see if it's done (you'll lose some juices though....). It won't be pink when it's done, it'll be white, but don't cook it till it turns into dry sawdust. Hope this helps. b |

Yah I normally go over and do actual cooking for Erin now and then. That's one thing I was taught how to do was cook...although I'm a MUCH better baker than cooker. But anyhow....Erin can make a MAD tombstone pizza! hehe ![]() Yes you can always go with the Ramen noodles (Chicken is the best kind) and the easy mac....but they're not all the healthiest for you. If you would like to keep your "girlish" figure and not gain 900 lbs while you're at college, I'd follow Spoognet's advice and cooking instructions. The Foreman Grill is definitely the way to go for cooking almost anything. You can not only cook meats quickly on there, but you can also do grilled cheeses, french toast, etc. on there. And nothing really takes over 7 minutes to cook. The man is a genius! ![]()

cooking gets old... it might be because i usta work as a cook at a 5 star resturant. oh, i looked at what i've been making as quick meals, hamburgur helper is simple and feeds at least 2 ppl, theres this stuff called zaturans(sp?) and they make jumbaliya, red beans and rice, and all sorts of other rice meals, those taste great if you grill up some chicken or ground beef to mix in(and they are under a dollar per box and only need water to make) also feeds 2-3 ppl. so get you and a friend or 2 to each make a meal once or twice a week and that takes care of almost the whole week
if you wana get creative, i made this last week.... 3 cups of yellow rice, a can of black beans(not baked) 3 pieces of grilled chicken with some spice mixture i made up(basically salt fresh ground black pepper oregino and a few other things i cant remeber atm) boil the rice and once its about half done i mixed in the cut chicken and beans, i also threw in a little hot sauce.... its a real simple mexican rice mix. made it all for under a few dollars
